At the Dinkel household...

I think I'm speaking for everyone when I say we're ready for school to start back and for Bryan to get back to a regular work schedule. I try to avoid taking all three kiddies out by myself, so we've been spending a lot of time at the house since Bryan went back to work Saturday. This gets old pretty quick! Anyway, today Julie and Zack came over for a visit. Drew missed his normal naptime, so this is where he fell asleep later in the day... He slept there at least an hour before I woke him up.

A picture that Brady drew for me - he was very proud of it, and placed it here for me to admire :)

My thoughts...

I went through Mallory's closet this weekend and washed all her new 3-6 months clothes. A few things, though, I had already pulled out about a month ago when I looked through and saw that they were probably about the right size. So, of course, I had to move some things out of her dresser to make way for new stuff. It made me a little sad for two reasons: 1. she has some really cute stuff that I wish she could wear some more!! 2. it's hard to believe how fast she is growing :( Now, obviously I'm thrilled that she's doing well and gaining weight as she is, but I knew going into baby #3 that I would be looking at things differently considering we aren't planning on having any more kids... There are some days I can think of reasons why it will be nice to not have anymore babies (esp. newborns) around the house, but mostly it saddens me to know this is our last time around the block (our last PLANNED time, anyway!). On days like this, it makes me so happy that I have my scrapbooks to look back on... the pics are important, but the journaling even more so, since I don't have the greatest of memories! I've already been thinking that when I get all my stuff back out again in January, that it will be fun to go back and print out some of the stuff I've written on my blog... I have not scrapped at all since Mallory was born, so I will have lots and lots to do! It will be so nice when Bryan gets back to a normal work schedule, the boys are back in school, the house is back in order, and I have some free time to scrap... not sure what this magical "free" time is, but maybe I can get some.

Not my day...

Where to begin? Let's see - I couldn't get to sleep last night until after midnight because of this $%^& cough I have. Then, Mallory woke up around 1:30 a.m. and again at 4 a.m. Bryan had to go to work today, so his alarm was going off around 6, to be followed by Drew crying at 6:15. Drew is not like Brady - if he gets up too early, he is cranky and pretty much stays that way for the rest of the day. Mallory got up around 7 a.m. (that part I can't complain about). I took her into the playroom to feed her since the boys were in the living room - apparently they didn't get the hint because Brady followed me in the playroom and wanted to know when he could watch Kung Fu Panda, shoot his Nerf gun, play with toys on the shelves he can't reach, etc. etc. You would think he would be happy to play with all his new stuff, but yesterday at 8 a.m. he was already telling me he couldn't find anything to do... you can imagine all the thoughts running through my head, but I kept my mouth shut. Anyway, I'm just saying I don't have high hopes for him entertaining himself all day! Saturday is the worst day for Bryan to have to work because I don't even enjoy taking all three kids out on a weekday, much less the weekend, much less the weekend after christmas!

Christmas Day

I didn't take many pics at all on Christmas day, mainly because I already have so many of the kids opening gifts. I did attempt to get one of the three of them in their matching jammies, and a few of Mallory trying out her Bumbo and looking at what Santa left her. Other than that, I videotaped the boys when they came out of their room to see what Santa left them. Well, technically, Brady came out of our room. They both woke up around 5 a.m., but Drew went back to sleep. Brady came to our room at 6 (as he was instructed!), and then layed in bed with us until 7 a.m. when he was allowed to get up. I didn't hear him, but Bryan said he was talking to the alarm clock to try to hurry it along...

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve day we had the Coppola's over for breakfast, went to church in the afternoon, and then came home and opened our presents under the tree. Then, Brady sprinkled reindeer food out on the front lawn and picked out some cookies to leave for Santa. Bryan and I had Santa stuff spread everywhere in the living room when Brady woke up about 10 p.m. - Bryan rushed to their room and met him at the door. It was definitely a close call!

Mallory posing in front of the flowers Kelly and Fran brought us.

A rare pic of Bryan!

I can't wait until Drew loses that fake "cheese" face - not that it will be anytime soon...

More gifts!

The Coppolas came over Sunday to exchange gifts. I didn't have any spectacular pics of opening presents, but they really enjoyed the cookies Kelly brought, so I included pics of that instead. I especially like this first picture because Nicholas is actually smiling instead of running away from the camera...

As usual, Drew loved his cookie and tried to get the icing off the top. Notice the sprinkle stuck to his chin!

Another one bites the dust...

"And another one gone, and another one gone, and another one bites the dust." This Queen song keeps going through my head today. Yet another person that said they would never drive a minivan now owns one (and is happy about it!) We picked up our new Toyota Sienna this evening. Brady is very excited and can't wait until tomorrow to ride in it. He did check it out when we got home, found some places to put his toys, and tried to convince us to put on the earphones that go with the DVD system. He's told me that he's going to wear them all the time - not just if the DVD is on, but also so that he doesn't have to listen to Mallory cry... LOL! I've already told him we are not watching movies EVERYtime we get into the car - only long trips like to Grandma's house or, of course, Alabama. Thankfully, we will drive about an hour to get to Shannon's house for Christmas, so that fits the requirement. We'll see if that rule has any lasting power...

A Mallory First

Mallory rolled over yesterday for the first time - from her tummy to her back. Bryan says she did it twice, although I wouldn't know because I was in the shower! If she was my first baby, this would have upset me, but the third time around I'm ok with it - provided, of course, it's not two weeks before she does it again...

Dinkel Family Christmas

Drew was mesmorized by his new airplane...
Brady was thrilled with his rocket - it was one of two things he asked Santa for. Of course, he was also concerned about whether or not Santa would also get him one!

Mmmm... tissue paper

Look at their expressions - Christmas is so much fun with kids!

Gift exchange

The pics aren't in the order I wanted, yet again!! Whatever... I don't have the time or motivation to redo it.

In our house, we like to spread out gift giving/receiving throughout the entire month of December. So, we will exchange presents with both sets of grandparents and several friends before Christmas actually gets here. I like it this way, and I think Brady has had a much better appreciation of who is giving him the gifts than if we did them all at once... As you've seen from my entries, we've already gotten together with my parents and Karen and Brooke. Today we exchanged with my friend Julie and Brady's best buddy, Zack.

Bow holder

Grandma Farris got this for Mallory for xmas - it's too cute! It matches her room perfectly (which may be because I picked it out myself...). She won't appreciate it for quite a while, but I love it - it's so much fun having a little girl.

4 months old

Mallory turned 4 months old this past Tuesday. We went to the doctor today, and she weighed in at 15 lb. 6 oz. - this is more than both boys weighed at this age, but not significantly more. But, I have gotten several comments that she's big for her age... just today at the doctor, two people mentioned it, but then three different people also commented on how cute her leg warmers were, so I guess I'll let it slide :) Month four was much like month three. She can make it all night without eating, but still wakes up and moves from her crib to her swing (or with Mommy in the recliner on a a bad night!). She still loves to chew on her fingers, and her new favorite activities are sitting in the exersaucer and looking around (she doesn't play with the toys much) and watching Baby Einstein. In fact, Drew is hooked on Baby Einstein now after I played it for Mallory a few times. He always asks to watch "bears" because one of the first images is a bear playing the cymbals.

Christmas Festivities

We went to my parents' house on Sunday to celebrate Christmas a little early. The boys were very excited about opening gifts - they tore through their own, then opened Mallory's, and then helped everyone else. There was definitely nothing leisurely about it! Today we also exchanged gifts with Karen and Brooke, but the few pics I took were nothing spectacular... Karen took many more than I did with her new, fancy camera, so maybe she got some that were worthwhile.

Enjoying Grandma's tree...

Trying out the video thing...

A little taste of Brady's xmas program - he is in the hippo class, so that helps explain the song choice.

Gingerbread Cookies

We spent the evening making gingerbread cookies, and I use the term "making" loosely. I bought the premade dough and just had to roll it out - all that did was remind me how much I HATE the feel of flour on my hands! But, the boys enjoyed it, so that's all that matters.

Mallory was the supervisor, while the boys cut out the cookies and helped Mommy ice them.

Brady's preschool xmas

I've downloaded these pics twice, and they are still out of order, so I give up on that...

Enjoying his pizza party at school - they made tortilla xmas trees, and here he is trying it... the kids got a special treat if they finished it, but Brady couldn't make it through because it had too many veggies for his liking!

At his xmas program - too bright for him, I guess. He looks like he is saluting, but that wasn't his intent!

Enjoying his party time - he was the only boy that picked one girl to dance with. Most of the others danced in a circle or with someone of the same sex. Funny what you can learn by attending these things...

Getting ready to sing at his program - he was excited to perform, as usual. It's easy to pick him out since he wanted to wear his Santa hat.

Here he finally spotted both Grandmas that came to hear him.

Drew's xmas party

Drew had his Christmas party at school today. He stuck by my side like glue, which didn't surprise me. What did surprise me is that he made no attempt to sing any of the songs during his music time. I knew he would be shy at first, but I thought he'd chime in after a while! Apparently not - he didn't even make the effort to jingle his bells during Jingle Bells. It made me laugh, and I did ask the teacher afterwards if he normally participates. She said that he does but that she knew he wouldn't sing today with the room full of people... he had a death grip on her hand when they first came in the room and she was just trying to get him to sit down!

His nose is looking a lot better, but it's still obvious in pictures! Maybe when we take pics with Santa tomorrow, it will be far enough away that it won't be too noticeable..

Their shirts were too cute - angels made out of handprints, with a LOT of help from their teachers!

Brady was so excited to see that it was snowing this evening. Here are a few pics from the house...

I love etsy!

If you are not familiar with, you need to try it out. You can get all kinds of handmade clothing, gifts, etc. for reasonable prices. Some things you buy as they are posted, but many of the sellers also do custom orders. For example, I am having personalized ornaments made for Brady and Drew's teachers for xmas, and I had the cutest gift set (onesie, burp cloth, and bib) made for my nephew to match his hungry caterpillar nursery. Here are some pics of my latest purchases...

I couldn't find any brown shoes for Mallory, so I had these made (by sugarplumtree).

I think these leg warmers are too cute (made by fategoddess)!

And, of course, a cute brown and pink bow (made by AllThingsGirly)
If you've found a seller you like, let me know so I can check them out!

Decorating the Tree

You gotta love those fake smiles! They were very proud of themselves for putting the ornaments on. Actually, Brady did a fairly good job, but Drew stuck ALL of them on the bottom branches, sometimes more than one on a branch! Mommy had to do a little rearranging after bedtime...

This was Drew's first time helping, and he was all over it! See the little bell in front of him? It's an ornament from when Bryan was little, and the boys love to ring it. Thanks, Grandma (with a tad of sarcasm)!

I hate how late Thanksgiving was this year, and I've got so many things to do that I don't know what to work on first! My goal for the week is to get the inside of the house decorated and to wrap presents for under the tree. Bryan is going to luck out this year - he's been working so much that I'm not asking him to put up the lights outside.... if you're reading this, though, don't think you are going to make this a regular occurrence! Getting me that minivan might help out for next year, though...

Monday, December 1, 2008

It's hard to know exactly what happened, given that I wasn't in the room and the only information I can get is from a 2 or 5 year old. But, the story is that they were running around and that Drew ran into the couch and then hit his head on the piano. His nose is actually a lot more black and blue than it appears in the pic - we definitely won't be doing Santa pics this week as planned!
