Halloween Day

One of these days, I will get a good pic of all three kids... at this point, I'm happy if I can get Drew to look at the camera and actually smile instead of the expression he makes while saying "cheese".

Pumpkin Carving

Drew's turn to carve...
As usual, no one wanted to actually put their arm into the pumpkin because it would get dirty, so they both had spoons. As you can see, Brady was even concerned about it getting on his sleeves so I told him to take his shirt off.

I'm not sure how these pictures ended up out of order - oh well! Mallory couldn't stay awake long enough to really take any pics, so we stuck her in there at the end for grins. Brady requested a scary face again this year, so this is what we ended up with.

Drew running Chick Hicks (one of his cars) over pumpkin guts. At least he didn't stick him in the bowl!

Brady's turn to carve. We have another smaller pumpkin for his pirate stuff that Uncle Marc and Aunt Sheree got him a few years ago, but we didn't have time to do that tonight. He certainly hasn't forgotten about it, though!

Soccer

Brady's friend Zack - it's his first time playing soccer
He, Brady, and Kayla are all on the same team

Brady finally had his first soccer game... the season was supposed to start long ago, but the hurricane pushed the schedule back several weeks. Bryan had the camera, and I assumed he had taken many pictures, but when I went to download them, there wasn't much. The fact that he was trying to occupy Drew while I took care of Mallory probably had something to do with that.

I think Brady has made some progress from last year. He doesn't seem quite as concerned with falling down and went for the ball more than I expected. He took several spills (courtesy of #10 on the other team - all the parents were ready to go out and trip him by the end of the game), but just got back up and kept going. He almost scored a few times, but hasn't quite gotten down the idea of actually kicking the ball into the goal rather than continuing to dribble it in. Daddy, Grandpa, and I all had "constructive" things to say - we probably need to work on taking it down a notch and just telling him how well he is doing!

Tears

Drew has finally settled into school and has had several tear free days in a row. In fact, when Brady gets ready in the morning, he often wants to know if he is going, too, and doesn't like it when I say no. Right now he goes Mon. and Wed. and next month I am adding on Fridays since he seems to really enjoy going.

On the other hand, he has been wailing when I drop him off for jazzercise. This really surprised me the first day because he's been going there forever, and it hasn't been THAT long since I stopped going. Certainly not long enough for him to forget the same babysitter he's had there since he was six weeks old. Anyway, today as we were walking in the parking lot on our way in, he told me, "I cry no more" and sure enough, when we got to the babysitting room, he was fine. Apparently he just made up his mind that enough was enough!

Two month checkup

Mallory had her two month checkup yesterday. She is doing well - she weighed in at 12 lb. 1 oz. and was almost 24 inches long. That puts her in the 75-90%, which is higher than what I would have expected. She got many vaccinations but 3 actual shots in her leg and did much better than I thought she would. She cried when they poked her and not even a minute afterwards. I had even saved some of her bottle thinking I would need it to calm her down... it's always good to expect the worst and be plesantly surprised when something better happens!

Brady is five!!

Proudly showing off all his new batman stuff... He has already thanked me (and daddy) at least four times today for the batcave. Looks like we'll have to devote a whole shelf in the playroom to Batman!

Last night Brady chose to go to Saltgrass Steakhouse for dinner. His reasons were as follows: 1. good bread with honey butter 2. the opportunity to get dessert. Earlier in the month we had discussed going bowling, too, but I think he completely forgot about that in the midst of worrying about how much time he would have to play with his new presents before bedtime.

Party Preview

We celebrated Brady's 5th birthday today - his actual birthday is tomorrow the 20th. He took four friends to Putt Putt Funhouse, and then everyone came back to the house for cake, presents, and a pinata. I have many good pictures, so this is just a preview before I have the time to get together a kodak gallery album...

Not really a party pic, but too cute not to share of Brooke!!

Two Months old

Brady & Drew - September 2006

Brady (below) - December 2003

Mallory turned two months old yesterday... month 2 has definitely been more challenging than month 1! She still loves to eat, which is a good thing, but also sometimes difficult because I want her to hold out longer than she thinks she should. She is sleeping in the swing during the day and has decided she doesn't like the crib too much anymore. She used to go several hours at a time every night, and now we're lucky to get more than an hour at a time. For example, last night she woke up to eat at 3:30 a.m. By the time I had her settled back down and in the crib, it was 5:00 a.m. I was hoping to make it to 6:30 a.m. - she woke back up at 5:40 a.m. During the night, she does go back to sleep with minimal trouble, but during the day she often gets very fussy and cries quite a bit before she will give in. She still takes the paci when she wants to, but often refuses it when she is really tired, which is frustrating! The good news is that we know she can go 6-7 hours without eating - the problem is that she is yet to do that combined with sleeping on her own! Her two month appointment is next week, so I'm curious to see what she weighs. She's definitely getting chubbier, but really just grew out of her newborn clothes.

About the pics - I like how Karen has posted current pics of Brooke with some when she was a baby on her blog. I decided it would be fun to do something similiar - below are pics of Mallory at two months, then two each of Drew and Brady at the same age (they were supposed to be under her pics, but I messed up and couldn't fix it!) . As you can see, she still looks a lot like Drew!

My new nephew

My sister-in-law Holly with Luke - they didn't find out what they were having, so it was a surprise for everyone!
Luke meeting his big sisters for the first time.
Hannah is and has always been such a beautiful girl. Scott likes to think she's going to be a nun - he better hope so!

Halloween Pics

To see equally cute Halloween pics of the boys (as of Mallory above), visit homeshade.com and scroll down to Tasha's entry on fall mini sessions (Oct 12). The boys are dressed as Batman and Robin, and you can also see our friends Kayla (bat girl) and Zack (Flash).

Luke Scott Dinkel

I have a new nephew!! Scott & Holly had their baby this morning at 7:17 a.m. What's funny is that I also had Mallory at 7:17, but in the evening. They already have two girls, so it will be a whole different experience this time around. Unfortunately, Luke decided to come so quickly that Holly wasn't able to get an epidural... thank god that's over for her! Scott promises that we will see some pictures soon, so I will try to post one if I can. I'll be curious to see how his older sisters react... last I heard, one wanted a boy and the other a girl. Hopefully things will go smoothly as they have for us with Mallory and the boys. Thankfully, Thanksgiving will be here before we know it and that will provide us a chance to see each other's babies!

Jazzercise

So, I was finally feeling ready to get back to jazzercise and went this morning for the first time after having Mallory. I expected to be sucking wind pretty bad, so I was plesantly surprised that I felt better than expected. Then I remembered that the last time I had gone to jazzercise I was 8 months pregnant... doesn't take a lot to be better than that! Tomorrow will probably be the real test. It felt good to be back and it reminded me how much I really love going. It's the only form of exercise I've ever actually enjoyed, so I highly recommend it to anyone...esp. if you like working out to music and have some rhythm! It's not for everyone, but it's definitely worth trying if you're looking for something fun and different.

Friday Fun

We had the Coppolas and Soennings over to visit tonight... although we have no evidence of John & Brandie being here because we always focus on taking pics of the kids and they don't have any yet!
As you can see, Drew has finally gotten the hang of riding the car he got for his birthday. He used to only want to push it, but now sees that riding on it is much more fun! Brady and Kayla played a little bit of baseball, but the biggest hit of the night was the robot you see with Drew. This was a present from Santa last Christmas that got put away for a while and reappeared yesterday. I may have to figure out where I bought it and get one for Kayla and Nicholas! I also included a cute pic of Mallory, although it has nothing to do with our guests... just didn't want to leave her out.

Drew's obsession...

is watching the movie Cars. He asks to watch it everyday, sometimes more than once (even if I've already let him). Eventually, I'm going to get out the video camera and record him watching some of it... he's watched it so many times that he knows some of the dialogue! Here he is relaxing with the King and Chick Hicks (two of the cars from the movie), watching it yet again.

No tears

Today was Drew's first day of school without tears! His teachers were very proud of him and gave him this sucker as a reward. His lip was quivering pretty bad when I dropped him off, so I was plesantly surprised to hear this news when I picked him up. Of course, I already knew it was better than last week, when he started crying before we even walked into the building!

Cute outfits

Mallory has so many cute outfits that most of you will never get to see... So, I am stealing borrowing an idea from Heather's blog - she posts a "tantrum pic of the day" for her youngest son. Instead, I will post an "outfit of the day." Of course, there's no way I will get to it every day, but I like how she has it separate on hers and changes out the picture instead of making it a new posting. I'm also stealing borrowing an idea from Karen's blog that you will see later in the month...

Smiles

I'm marking down yesterday as Mallory's first official smile. We've been getting little smiles for a while... where her mouth curls up a little bit, but nothing like the smiles I see in her sleep! So, Bryan tells me this morning that he set her down in the crib sometime last night and when he turned the mobile on, she gave a full-out smile... sounds about right - not for Mommy or Daddy, but for the mobile! Anyway, I decided to officially record it even though I hadn't seen it... and then when I went to change her diaper a few minutes later, she smiled at me - yea!! Hopefully we'll be able to get a picture soon. We're taking some Halloween/fall pics next weekend at Karen's house, but I'm not going to get too excited about getting something great of Mallory. I know Tasha takes some great pics, but if the timing is off for Mallory, she won't stand a chance!
