Catching up

Well, I'm in scrapbooking mode again. It's been nice getting a few things done digitally, but I was ready to pull all my crap stuff back out and get started on scrapping this year. I had decided a while back that I was going to add a calendar in this year, and I'm really liking it. I've done January and February so far, and I like that it gives me a spot to throw in a few random pics that I probably wouldn't have used otherwise. Here is February, along with the Valentine's page that will go beside it. The colors on the second page look a little faded in the pic, not sure why.

Our weekend

It was a nice, quiet weekend with just Mallory around the house. Saturday, Bryan and I went to dinner and to see The Hangover. This is NOT a movie I would have picked from the previews, but some friends of his recommended it, so I agreed. It was hilarious! There were a few bits that were a little much, but overall it was really funny. Then, on Sunday, Bill brought the boys along with him and met Bryan at Minute Maid Park for the Astros game. Other than the fact that the Astros were one out away from a win and blew it, they had a great time. Drew was SO exhausted when they got home. I'm sure it was a combination of being away from home and the fact that he's been getting up with Brady almost every morning - he's not overly cranky, but the smallest thing can set him off and he gets so upset that he has trouble calming himself back down.

This is such a cute pic of Drew - too bad Brady wasn't paying attention.

It's peaceful around our house today. Brady and Drew are spending the weekend at Grandma Dinkel's house. We do still have Mallory, but she is by far the least noisy of the bunch! Tomorrow Bryan and I are going to dinner and a movie while she goes to daycare. I'm actually in the process of finding a regular babysitter (or two). I signed up on - it's basically a base of people interested in working as babysitters, care givers, housekeepers, etc. You can find people in your area and then take a look at their references, reviews, availability, etc. and contact them thru the site. So, I'm hoping to find a sitter or two that I can call on - we make good use of Grandma Dinkel and my babysitter through jazzercise, but the ease of having someone nearby who can come to the house would be great.

A few updates from this week -

I took Mallory for her ultrasound today. She did pretty well, but was definitely ready for the tech to be done. She was trying to lick the gel, which was hilarious! The one lump is pretty high up on her chest, close to her shoulder so it was difficult to keep her mouth off everything. I predict that the results will be what we expect, but, of course, we didn't find out anything today. While we were waiting, I did notice that her second tooth on the bottom is starting to come in. We also had to move the crib all the way down this week because she is pulling up all the time now. Unfortunately, that gives her access to the dvr, vcr, and dvd player so she's hearing the word "no" a lot!

On Thursday, we met Paula and her kids at Incredible Pizza in Pasadena. We had never been before, but will be going back soon for Drew's birthday. They have indoor minature golf, mini bowling lanes, bumper cars, go karts, and a ton of arcade games. Drew didn't get to make many choices when we went, simply because there were 6 kids and three of them were older and made their opinions known! So, I want to go back and let him ride the go karts and anything else he wants to "drive." He loves all those rides where you put your token in and steer - even though he can't reach any of the pedals or stay on the road at

I went last night to see The Proposal - very cute! Before the movie, they showed the preview for New Moon. I had not seen it before and it was awesome to see it the first time in the theater! I guess I haven't gone online and watched it simply because it's still SO long before the movie comes out... After reading the books, I questioned the guy (a little bit) they had for Jacob in Twilight, but now that I've seen him in the preview - NEVERMIND!

Happy Father's Day!

We had both sets of grandparents over today to celebrate the holiday. I made Bryan's favorite (which is also my dad's favorite - manicotti) then Brady played a little wii with his grandpas and we opened presents.

Drew always wants to be in the pic, but isn't too interested in smiling...

Heaven forbid Bryan get to open his own present!
An unsuccessful shot of Bryan with the kiddos - Mallory was ready for bed by the time we were opening presents (hence the paci). Bryan put Drew's hood on him in an attempt to get him to smile for the camera. Apparently, he liked it because he kept it like that for a while.
Mallory enjoyed playing with the wrapping paper and curling ribbon. I might curl some ribbons for her birthday pics with Tasha and see if we get something cute out of it!

The other layout...

I spent a good hour trying to fit bubbles somewhere on the page, only to decide I like it better without...LOL! Unfortunately, that's not unusual for me - I'll get 90% of the layout done within a reasonable amount of time, and then spend an unreasonable amount of time on a stupid detail. Sometimes it's a pain being a perfectionist.

I've had an interesting morning. It started with discovering two grass snakes in my kitchen. I'm not sure that I could have done anything with them myself, but I certainly didn't have the time to mess with it before exercise. So, I called Julie (it's quite handy having a friend who works with animals) and she said she'd take care of them. Unfortunately, she couldn't find them when she made it over here, so when we got home, Brady didn't want to go anywhere for fear of discovering the snakes. "What if I flush the toilet and they hear it??" "Drew, come in here with me." (As if Drew would be helpful!). Now that he's had time to eat lunch, I think it's less fresh on his mind and he's not my shadow anymore:)

I planned a quick trip to the mall after exercise to finish up my father's day shopping. It was fine for the first 15 mins. and then everything went to heck fast. The boys shared a chocolate milk, but Drew threw a fit because Brady got the last drink. I went to get myself a salad at Chick-Fil-A, and when I went to put my drink in the holder, I put a hole in it and it was gushing everywhere - mainly onto my diaper bag. We finally made it out to the car to discover that somehow it was all wet and muddy around it. When Brady got into the car, he walked right on top of the seat to get to the back - why he would do that I have no idea! Of course, the only reason he got busted was because there were two wet footprints on it... I was rather irritated, to say the least. Then, Mallory threw her blankie and it got all muddy - this was really my fault, I should have closed the car door before she had a chance to throw it out. By that time, of course, she was pretty tired and had no blankie to hold onto, so we listened to her cry most of the way home. Good times!!

Latest creation

I've been planning on getting this page done for several weeks... I started once before and got frustrated, then haven't been motivated again until about 11 p.m. tonight. But, once I got started again (from scratch), things seemed to go better than the first time around and I didn't want to stop until I was done. Now, I need to do a page with the same digital kit for Jude's bday party at Moody Gardens... hopefully it won't be another two weeks!

Big Boy Bed

Since Drew will be three in a matter of weeks, we decided it was time to take the side of his crib. He slept in a regular bed with Brady on vacation, so it seemed like the perfect time to make the transition when we got home. I've tried getting him to sleep with a sheet or pillow before, but he always refuses... so, I decided to add all those things in when I took the side off and thought he might accept it as one big change. So far, so good. He was excited when he saw what I had done and has done well the last three nights. However, remember that he sleeps in the same room with Brady, which is helpful. Last night Brady said Drew got up around 1:30 a.m. in the morning, but Brady told him that it was the middle of the night and that he needed to go back to bed, so he did!

Drew is so funny these days... He injures himself countless times a day and always comes crying to me - "I hurt myself!" Most times, it's something really small like Brady stepped on his foot, he hit his head (not hard), or whatever else he gets into because he never seems to pay attention! For whatever reason, he just started stuttering some of his words. We noticed it on vacation - it's limited to a few words so far. Cuz, cuz, cuz. So, so, so. I vaguely remember Brady doing it for a while, so I'm pretty certain it's just a phase. He's also really whiney and gets frustrated really easily. I have to constantly remind him to just ask for help instead of getting so irritated - it's like 0 to 60 in 2 seconds. One minute he's fine, the next, the world is ending because he can't get the lid off the playdough. He's got a few phrases in his arsenal that we hear all the time. "Don't tell me!" (with a scowl on his face) and "Don't shush me!" are probably the most frequent. Of course, he always wants to be the first at everything - first in the car, first to turn the tv on or off, first through the door, and the ultimate first - to be the winner (at everything - racing with Brady, playing wii, playing games, etc.). Thankfully, he's not too much of a sore loser because you know Brady loves to win at everything and he normally does - I continually point out that Drew is only 2, but Brady doesn't care the reason behind his winning :) Anyway, just a few observations about Drew - seems like it's been a while since I wrote anything specifically about him... can't imagine why!

10 months old!

That's right - Mallory is already 10 months old! I've got a session scheduled with Tasha in August to do family pics and her one year old pics - it will be here before I know it, and I am already planning what she will wear... LOL. This month, Mallory officially started crawling. She made her first trip to the pool, got her first tooth, and went on her first vacation. On that vacation, she watched her cousin Luke pull up on the sofa (or anything else he could get his hands on!), so she has started pulling up, too. It was also the month of "the face," although she's already doing it with less frequency. I was going to report that she now has enough hair to wear a bow, but I was deceived... she wore one for an hour at home one day, and now I can't get it to stay in to save my life! Maybe next month... She definitely has more hair than the boys did at this age, as you can see from the pics.

We took Mallory to her appointment at the dermatologist today. The doctor didn't seem overly concerned, and thinks the "lumps" on her chest are probably just hemangiomas underneath the skin. This is basically what her pediatrician also thought, but we are going to take her for an ultrasound to be sure. The most stressful part of the day was finding a place to park in the garage :)

Drew at 10 months - I noticed in the pics he was eating a lot of table foods by then. Mallory still has difficulty with some of the stage 3 baby foods and much prefers the pureed stuff...
This isn't my best pic of Brady at this age, but I wanted to show the girls, too, since I've been posting recent pics of them - it's so hard to remember when they were that little!

It's good to be home...

except for all the laundry, getting everything put away, and getting two little boys back into the routine of "everyday" life! We got in late last night - around 11 p.m. Bryan hasn't decided whether or not he's going to work tomorrow, but he is off on Tuesday because Mallory's appointment at the pediatric dermatologist is that day. So, I guess we will be easing back into normal life... the boys got up after 7 this morning, but Bryan said it was only 8 when they started asking to play wii!

On the boat

The rain held off long enough this morning for the men to take the kids out on the boat for a couple hours. They fished and took turns driving the boat. We're in our room now waiting for the rain to subside and are going back out in a bit. Sounds like they may do some more fishing, and then we are all going to ride on the boat to a restaurant for dinner.

Silver Dollar City

This was the only ride we rode twice - Drew would have ridden it again given the opportunity. I will admit that it was pretty fun - it "hopped" up and down like a frog.
The boys really enjoyed the Veggie Tales show we saw. It was perfect because Mallory took a little nap during the show, we got to sit in the air conditioning, and the show was over before it lost Drew's interest.
Bryan and Brady had to wait in line for the roller coaster, so it's a good thing they enjoyed it!

Shopping pics

One of the best deals I got - a $24 pair of pj's for Mallory for $5.76.
This one is too cute! It was $8. I would have bought one for Kate, too, but the only other size they had was a 5.
This was my non-deal... but can you see why I kept going back to it?? I tried to talk myself into just the shirt, but it's not nearly as cute without the shorts.
FYI - I did buy some things for the boys, too, but let's face it - their stuff isn't nearly as fun.

Vacation update

Of course, I have many pics but don't feel like messing with them... tomorrow I might have time in the morning, so we'll see if I feel like uploading them then.

On Tuesday, the women and babies went shopping at a couple of the outlet malls. We spent all of our time shopping for the kids and have lots of clothes to show for it! I got Mallory a lot of cute stuff - some REALLY good deals, some pretty good deals, and one outfit that wasn't on sale at all (but I kept going back to it!). The kids and men hung around the resort and spent most of their time at the pool. That afternoon/evening, everyone except myself went to the Dixie Stampede. I wanted to go, but thought it was a smarter decision to stay behind. The last time I went to a show involving horses and dirt flying around everywhere, I thought I was going to end up in the hospital because my asthma was so bad. Anyway, the kids loved it - I was sad that no pics or video were allowed... oh, well. Late Tuesday night we had a tornado scare. About 11 p.m., the sirens started going off - come to find out, a tornado was literally headed right towards us. We had until about 11:30 to decide what to do - problem was we are on the 4th floor, but didn't know where else to go other than outside underneath the stairs. Needless to say, the thought of waking up all the kids and scaring the crap out of them didn't appeal to us, but obviously we wanted to do what was best. We heard from some others staying here that there was a basement in one of the other buildings. Scott went to check it out, and by the time we were deciding about heading other there, the tornado made a turn and we were pretty certain we were out of the woods. Thankfully, we had not woken any of the children - so, we were very fortunate in that respect, and also the obvious one (that the tornado didn't come our way). We never told the kids. You know how much Brady would worry about that, and Hannah is even a bigger worrier than he is....

Wednesday morning we went to see a show called Amazing Pets. It wasn't so amazing... there weren't nearly enough animals in the show and it was way longer than it should have been. We went out to lunch and then the women and oldest kids went to see Peter Pan. The girls tried to collect every piece of pixie dust off the floor after the show was over (Peter Pan flew over the audience after the curtain call), and we all tried to convince Rachel she couldn't fly after we got home. Scott explained to her how Peter "flew" during the show, but I'm not sure she really believed him, and we've been keeping an eye on her ever since...

Today, we took our kids to Silver Dollar City. Scott and Holly took theirs to a water park. We both had a great day, and I think everyone got to do what they wanted that way. We rode rides, played a few carnival games, saw two shows, rode the train, and Brady and Drew came away with their own personalized bats. Brady has been chomping at the bit to spend the money I gave him for vacation (plus whatever he had of his own), so I'm glad he found something that he will actually use after we get home.

Tomorrow we are renting a boat all day. The weather has held up all week (other than the thunderstorms the night of the tornado), so we all figure it will rain tomorrow. We specifically put off renting the boat until tomorrow because it was the least chance of rain, so hopefully that won't come back and bite us in the rear.

Monday pics

I think this was Brady's favorite part of the tour - right as we entered the lake.
Rachel volunteered right away to drive the boat.
Drew with his quacker - needless to say, the kids loved these! They told all the kids that the "quaker fairy" would come that night to take the quackers away...
Drew playing putt-putt - for him to be free, he was required to use a plastic club, but he didn't seem to mind. I wish I had taken the videocamera with us... sometimes he started at the right spot, but always at some point he would pick up his ball and place it literally 1-2 inches from the hole. He got so excited when the ball went in - every time!
Rachel got two hole-in-ones!
A little bit of time at one of the resort pools - until someone went potty in it, that is! (None of our group, to be clear.) Luke is SO smiley. If he's happy, he's all smiles. The babies are having a lot of fun playing together and have been very good for all the time we've dragged them around so far.

Dogwood canyon pics

A few pics from Sunday -

Waiting for our tram tour to start...
Feeding the trout - Drew kept going back to the driver for more food
The funniest part of seeing all the animals was when they chased after us, knowing that they would get fed when we reached a certain part of the trail.

More pics tomorrow... right now I'm tired of waiting for them to upload. Today we did a tour of part of Branson called "Ride the Ducks." I'm just realizing I should have taken a pic of the "duck" we rode on - the vehicle can go both on land and water. The kids got an opportunity to drive it in the water, so they were thrilled with that. Actually, Hannah and Brady were hesitant, but once Rachel and Drew drove, they wanted to see what it was all about. We went to lunch and then played minature golf at a place called Pirate's Cove. Needless to say, this was right up Brady's alley - we had to play the harder course to play on the pirate ship they had, so I was feeling like I got my daily exercise after all the stairs we climbed. We headed back to the resort in the afternoon and all the kids except Drew chose to go to the pool - Drew wanted to go fishing instead.

Start of our vacation

The trip here wasn't too bad... we left at 6 a.m. and made it here around 7 p.m. The boys were great, as I expected, because they watched movies or played v-smile the whole way. Mallory did pretty well - she got fussy several times because she refused to let herself fall asleep. However, once we set up the dvd player for her, she was better. I hope it won't be a miserable trip on the way home, though, because everyone is going to be exhausted. The boys went to bed after 10 last night and were up by 6 a.m. Mallory slept until 12:30 a.m. and then pretty much woke up every hour after. Hopefully she will improve as she gets used to her "new" bed. With everyone out in the living area in the morning, it's going to be impossible for anyone to sleep in...

Today we went to a place called Dogwood Canyon and went on a guided tram tour. It was a two hour tour, which I thought might be a little on the long side, but everyone enjoyed it, even the babies! We saw a lot of neat scenary, trout, and wildlife like elk and bison. The kids got to feed the trout, so they were excited. Brady lost his Astros hat on the tram ride - apparently that happens a lot because the tour guide was happy to stop and get it. Aunt Holly was nice enough to get off to get the hat and found herself face to face with a deer. It was particularly humorous because the deer had been hiding from us earlier, and she was obviously quite surprised to see it!

We headed to lunch after that, and then stopped on the way back to get fishing licenses. The men took the kids fishing here at the resort, while we went grocery shopping (I know, terribly exciting!) Rachel managed to fall off the pier and in the lake, so it wasn't without excitement. Hmm... now that I'm reading it, it doesn't sound like we did that much, but we didn't eat dinner until 8 p.m. so I guess it was a fuller day than it reads!

Friday, June 5, 2009

We're off for Branson early tomorrow morning... I'm not concerned about the boys in the car since we have the dvd player and are also taking their v-smile to play. Mallory has never been in the car for more than an hour, so she will be the wild card. I am taking a whole container of puffies, though, so maybe she'll just snack the whole way! We do still have the portable dvd player, so that will be available for her if she needs it. I'm more concerned about the fact that there's a chance of rain everyday we will be there. Almost everything we have planned is outdoors, so we need at least some good weather!

Bryan will have his laptop, so I will most likely post a few times while we're gone. Not sure about pictures, though - Bryan was able to download pics to his laptop while he was in Spain last summer, so hopefully that will also work with our "newer" camera.

Mallory's scrapbook

Starting with 6 months old...

A tooth!!

Yes, that's right - Mallory's almost ten months old and her first tooth is finally appearing! Not that I'm surprised, Brady didn't get any until this age either. You can barely see it right now (a flashlight helps), but I can feel that it just broke through - bottom left. She's so cute with her toothless grin - it will be interesting to see the change.
