Nursery pics

There was nothing wrong with Mallory's room, but I just didn't love it the way I did the boys' nurseries. So, I decided that after living with it for a year, it was time to make a few changes. The first change I made was to her name. I loved it when I made it, but wasn't thrilled after I hung it. I think it was just too busy for where it was. I was going to order her name in vinyl, but decided to repaint the letters I already had to see if I liked it better without spending any more money.

To this - the only other change is the flowers in the vase on her nightstand. I like it much better, although more than in person than when looking at these pics - the other pic I took from farther away had a funny look to it, but it was a better comparison.
The closet wall was my least favorite, so it got the biggest change.

If you look closely, you can see her new piggy bank sitting on the shelf. I'm considering it a birthday present, and I ordered it way before I thought about making any changes in her room. But, I'm happy to have a place to put it where it's out of harm's way...

When I walk into her room now, my eye automatically goes to the closet wall, and it makes me smile. So, I think it was well worth it!

Conversation with Brady

In the car this morning, Brady found a Planet Heroes poster. He keeps all kinds of junk back next to his car seat, so it's not too surprising. He owns several of the Planet Hero action figures, plus the rocket ship.

Brady: Mom, I found my Planet Heroes poster! (as if he'd been searching for it). I wish I had number 9.

Me: Which one is number 9?

Brady: The one with three eyes that's from the last planet.

Me: Pluto?

Brady: yes

Me: I don't think they make that one anymore, remember?

Brady: Yes, I know. But what about Santa? He can make ANYTHING!! I'll just tell him it's my favorite so I'll get it for sure.

Me: Crap!! Guess I better start searching for it... (in my head, of course)

I do love that he has complete faith in Santa, though :) Maybe I'll get lucky and he won't remember again. He asked for him last Christmas and got one of the other guys from Grandma, which made him happy. So, it's been months since he's mentioned it. I should probably go out to the car and put the poster in the trash...

My week

I've spent the week so far scrapbooking, working on Mallory's room, making decisions about Mallory's birthday, and have spent way too much time looking around on etsy! I have a couple friends that just had babies, so I've been looking for potential gifts plus I'm already thinking about Christmas... well, why not? Hobby Lobby has had their Christmas crap stuff out for weeks now. Anyway, I need to take a few pics of the changes I made to Mallory's room and of at least one layout I wanted to post. So, maybe tomorrow I'll get that done.

I took the boys to see G-Force yesterday - I was unimpressed. It mainly had to do with the fact that it didn't hold Drew's interest, so I was constantly shushing him. Today we went to storytime and to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. Note to self - never go there on a Wednesday again, definitely not between 11 and 12! Tomorrow we have our music lesson in the morning, and the boys are getting haircuts in preparation for our family photo session next week. (As I'm proofreading this, I realize I haven't even thought about what I'm going to wear!!) I'm already telling myself that it will be a while before I see the pics, because I know Tasha is crazy busy right now...

Mallory fix

If you're taking a look at the NASA pics of the boys, then you deserve some cute pics of Mallory, too!

We spent some time this day trying on bows WITHOUT headbands, since she is no longer a fan :( However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked some of them without it.
Mmm... baked beans!

Trip to NASA

I've decided that Drew is still on the young side as far as visiting NASA - not that he didn't have a good time, but even Brady is just beginning to grasp some of the concepts of space, astronauts, rockets, etc. Brady thought everything he saw was pretty neat. He was especially excited that Julie and Zack joined us. I think when the boys get older, it will definitely be worth getting a season pass because they do have a nice play area that I'm sure is more fun when it's not so crowded!

It's official...

we're going with Captain Hook, Peter Pan, and Tinkerbell for Halloween. Bryan's mom is going to make the Peter Pan costume, and I went ahead and ordered the pattern so she has plenty of time to get it done. Brady was fine with any costume, as long as he "has a weapon or is a snake or tiger." So, we're good to go! I'll have to see if the rest of our usual trick-or-treating group wants to try to go with our theme or do their own thing - we could have some lost boys, pirates and an alligator if they are interested...

Catching up...

Somehow I was surprised when I looked at the blog and saw I hadn't posted anything since Tuesday... I have some pics from our visit to NASA today, but didn't have the time to put them on the computer yet. As always, when my scrapbooking stuff is out, I struggle with getting other things done because I don't want to take away any time I could be dedicating to that. Anyway, the reason I didn't have time to mess with the pics tonight is because I went to see The Ugly Truth. I've been waiting for it to come out, and was hoping that I wouldn't be disappointed. It was hilarious! I even heard some men on the way out of the theater commenting that they liked it, too.

A few interesting things from this week - yesterday, Drew fell asleep in the playroom around 6:15 p.m. We left him for a while, and then put him in bed around 8 p.m. I was a little worried he wouldn't make it through the night, but he slept until about 6:30 this morning.

I've been making an effort to feed Mallory more table food, and apparently she loves baked beans! Bryan got a picture of her eating them this afternoon - it's too funny. He said she was messy, but I was quite surprised when I looked at the pics and her entire face was covered :)

What to say about Brady? He's busy asking questions as usual, and already asked this evening what our plans would be tomorrow. I guess he hasn't figured out that when Daddy is home on the weekends, we prefer to NOT have plans. Not that we haven't done plenty this week - we went swimming, went to storytime at the library, went to our music lesson, had Zack over for a playdate, and went to NASA today.

New layouts

I'm very happy with this page that has Kate's announcement - I didn't muck it up, which I was afraid of doing. In case you're wondering, I don't love all of my work. Some things I love, some I like, and some are just ok. That's why if I'm really pleased with something, I like to share :)
The picture of Brooke is the cover of a little book (or folder, I guess) - it opens up to 4 other pics of our day with her and a couple of Kate when she was two days old.
For the family to see - I've decided I'm going to start a photo album (not scrapbook) of our family vacations because there are too many pics to try to scrap everything. I included 15 here -10 are visible, and5 are in the little accordian book under the checklist.

Halloween ?!?

I've got Halloween on the brain today. Yes, I know it's July! If you know me, then this shouldn't surprise you because I do everything ridiculously early - including ordering Halloween costumes for the kids. I think Brady has pretty much settled on having a costume party for his birthday, so that's just more encouragement for me to plan ahead...lol. I got Mallory's tutu out from last Halloween, to see if there was any hope of it fitting. I had thoughts of passing it along to Karen, but it looks like Mallory will still be sporting it this year...

Look at all those mosquito bites, poor girl!

For comparison's sake (sniff, sniff)
Of course, I want all three kiddos to coordinate. So far, we've come up with two choices: 2 ghostbusters and a baby ghost OR Captain Hook, Peter Pan, and Tinkerbell. I think they would both rock with the right costume choices... As always, there are issues of finding the right costumes in the right sizes - they just don't have the selection in toddler sizes that they do in child, and Drew is just too small to wear anything but toddler. I need to talk with Mary to see what she can do for me :) She'll probably be leery after making Brady's tin man costume a couple years ago - it was quite a bit of work! But, it was also super cute and MUCH better than anything I could have bought already made.
I bet I've got you thinking about Halloween, too! It's never too early, you know...

A few videos...

video

A little look at Mallory for those who don't get to see her very often... she's not facing the camera the whole time, but I was trying to get her babbling and this is the best of the six minutes I recorded!

video

This is from Drew's actual birthday - the punching bag and gloves were the biggest hit (well, until we opened mariokart wii).

video
This one is pretty self-explanatory, although I enjoy the look on Drew's face and he's trying not to smile:)

11 months old!

Mallory is 11 months old today! She is pulling up all the time now, and can stand unsupported - a little longer everyday. She just started cruising, so it will be interesting to see how long until she starts walking. The boys didn't spend much time at all cruising, so we'll see if she's any different. She has a whopping two teeth now (both on the bottom), has learned to wave, and enjoys getting into everything she's not supposed to! It's a constant battle to get her to wear a headband - she's not interested, but I am! Sometimes, I can get a flower or small bow to stay in, so we've almost got enough hair for that. Now that she's getting around more, she has found several more things to play with - some of her favorites are the kitchen in the playroom, and unfortunately, whatever is on the baker's rack in the actual kitchen. I've caught her splashing around in the dog water a few times, so you can't leave her alone for long at all...

I found this pic of Zack and had to include it - too cute!!

Drew's party

Drew's birthday party was yesterday afternoon. He was so cute this year - he told me several times how excited he was... it's really the first birthday he had an understanding of (esp. with Brady's help). We invited grandparents and a few close friends and had some fun in the backyard. I have tons of pics (esp. of the kids on the water slide), so these are just a few I picked out.

Kate was so cute in her "lil sis" onesie. I have a pretty good pic of her and Karen that I will include when I put together my album, but she's got that "deer in the headlights" look in it.

Fun with Mallory

As you can imagine, Mallory loves to try to get into whatever her brothers are doing and would especially love to chew on some of their smaller cars...
We put out this slide tonight - we borrowed it for Drew's party tomorrow. Mallory thought it was grand! She smiled and giggled, especially when Drew or Brady were bouncing down the other side of the slide. I was happy to get some cute pics of her on it today - tomorrow will be all about Drew!!

She loves bathtime!

29 and counting...

Happy Birthday, Karen! May your day be filled with cooperative, fuss-free children and a good glass of wine (or two)...

A+

I'm very pleased with how these pages turned out. When I have pictures that I really love, I don't want to screw them up by doing TOO much. But, at the same time, I love embellishments. So, for me there is a fine line between not enough and too much. This time around I think I got just the right balance! It's funny because these pics are actually still out in my house - I took them out of frames to work on the pages, and then put them right back. But, it won't be long before I replace them for new pics (our session with Tasha is in less than a month) so I wanted to go ahead and get a layout done while I was motivated.

The story of my life

At 8:20 tonight, we were in the kitchen about to get the boys ready for bed. Brady gave me a hug and said to me, "But I didn't get to play any games with you today." So, I reiterated for him all the things we did today. I took everyone to our music lesson, went to lunch, took them to a puppet show at the library, played baseball, did some music at home together, played a pirate game with Drew (Brady was in time-out at the time), did some dance dance revolution on the wii, and hid some clues for the boys to play a treasure hunt game. He said, "I know, but we didn't get to play a game together." I told him that it wasn't my fault he was in time-out for the one "game" I played, and neglected to say any of the other choice words that were on the tip of my tongue...

Mallory went down for a nap around 2 p.m, and the boys were playing wii in the playroom so I pulled out my new weights and decided to try the workout dvd I got from Netflix. I'm very happy with jazzercise but want to do some extra upper body work at home, maybe 2-3 times a week. So, I figure I can easily fit the 20 minutes in while they are playing. I got a solid 10 minutes in before Drew came in. He was so funny because he wanted to do it with me, so he was trying to imitate some of the "moves" from the video. I wish someone else had been there to get it on tape... He asked me, "Why don't you have any clothes on??" because I just had shorts and a sports bra on - one of the luxuries of doing it at home!

San Antonio weekend

We had a good time visiting Grandma Myrtice and Aunt Linda in San Antonio. The kids were well behaved, and slept better than I expected, so I couldn't ask for much more than that! The big event of our trip was going to the circus. Brady looks forward to going every summer, and this year was no different. Everyone enjoyed the show, including Mallory and all the adults. She sat on Aunt Linda's lap the entire time and watched the whole thing. She got a little fussy when they first turned the lights out, but got over that pretty quickly. Brady and Drew managed to get a toy each, plus the crowns that came with their smores on a stick. Even though I've been before, I was still surprised by the concession prices! It was $21 for two smores (you could only buy them with crowns, of course) and a box of popcorn. Thankfully, Grandma Farris bought their toys - not sure I would have been able to dish out the money...

One of our favorite parts - they fit 7 motorcycles in that metal cage.

Drew certainly enjoyed his smore...
as did Brady!Showing off their goodies

Birthday Fun

Here's Drew enjoying his ice cream at Incredible Pizza. I think it was one of his favorite parts - along with riding gokarts and flying an airplane (simulator game) with Daddy.

Our little party at home - I don't think he understands yet that he's having a party next weekend, so I'm sure he'll be thrilled!
There are some advantages to being the third child. One is that there are more celebrations in the house, so you try cake and ice cream a little earlier...
Drew's boxing gloves and punching bag were what captured his interest first. He didn't get one of his bigger presents until later - an inflatable pool for the backyard. It was too late to go swimming in it, so we blew it up and filled it with balls. We promised to fill it with water tomorrow morning, although I already told Brady it wouldn't be FIRST thing in the morning.
We're headed to San Antonio tomorrow afternoon to visit my aunt and grandmother. I doubt I will have access to a computer, so you won't hear from me again until Monday at the earliest (unless I have time tomorrow morning to upload some pool pics).

Happy birthday Drew!!

Getting into trouble

Sometimes I buy outfits for Mallory that I think will be so cute, but I don't like them as much on her. This is not the case with this one - I loved it when I bought it, and love it even more on her! I tried to get a good pic of her smiling, but she wasn't having it...
I talked to the dermatologist's office yesterday, and the results of Mallory's ultrasound were as they expected - consistent with two deep hemangiomas. So, they may get a little bigger, but will eventually fade away.
This morning we went to our first Kindermusik lesson. The one I signed up for is designed for families with kids anywhere from 0-7. It was nice because there were only two other moms with two children each, and that's the whole class. The boys enjoyed it and look forward to going back next week. Mallory did her own thing, but also participated some. The hardest thing was keeping the instruments out of her mouth!
