Fun at the zoo

I always try to make a trip to the zoo in the spring, before it gets unbearably hot outside. Yesterday was a great choice! The weather was nice, and the zoo wasn't crowded - we really couldn't have asked for anything better (other than everything being free...lol).

A friend of mine came with us - she took this pic and helped me herd the kids a few times :)

I really wanted a pic of Mallory with the zebras while wearing this cutesy shirt - it wasn't meant to be, but here she is looking at one. Boy, was she excited to get out of her stroller! She was having a good time before, but once she got out she was having a field day - it was too cute.
Mallory loves to give hugs and kisses.

Lookouts vs. Raptors

Today was Brady's second t-ball game. They are now allowing the children to make outs, although we will continue to not keep score. Brady was excited about being the catcher for the first inning. He was on the pitcher's mound for the second inning and had the opportunity to field the ball several times. He got three hits from balls thrown to him and was able to score on each one (which just means he made it to first base without getting thrown out!).

Let the painting begin!

It's not that I'm excited about painting, I'm not. But, I am excited to see how the boys' room turns out. I did some priming today and started cutting in a little. I attempted to take a pic of where I'm at, but with the bunk beds smack dab in the middle of the room, it's pretty impossible. I'm hoping to get the majority of the painting done tomorrow. There's certainly enough time in the day, the question is how tired I will get of doing it.

In other household news, I accepted an estimate for getting laminate in my living room, entry, and hallway. I think it's going to look great, so I'm anxious to find out when it's going to be done. I've already picked out what I want - no surprises there. There were two samples I liked, and I felt no need to go to the showroom to see more. I kept them at the house and looked at them when the light was coming in this afternoon and put them next to the entertainment center, piano, door, etc.

I'm back!

I made it back from Vegas this afternoon. Not sure how much longer I'm going to last tonight - I got about two hours of sleep last night, considering I went to bed late and then got up at 4:45 a.m. for our flight this morning. We had a good time, although I had no luck at all at the tables. Of course, I never expect to bring my gambling money home, but I usually have something left! This time was brutal. The only thing I won was $20 on a video poker machine, and as soon as I got that royal flush, I cashed out! We did get to see Lion King and went to visit Hoover Dam, so it's good that I had other things to occupy my time since my money disappeared so quickly :)

Tomorrow will be a busy day of exercise, getting my haircut, running a few errands, and grocery shopping. Then, this weekend will be spent painting the boys' room. Hard to believe that Easter is approaching so quickly!

Fun at the park

We took the kids to the Challenger 7 park today. I had never been there before and was impressed by what they had - they have several playgrounds (including one for 2-5 year olds) and they are all covered. There is also a little pond where you can fish. I didn't get any pics of the kids fishing, though, because the women went to get lunch while the men stayed behind with the kids to fish. They caught enough to make them happy, so the fishing gear got packed up after lunch so we could head over to play.

Brady really wanted to make it across the monkey bars - he tried another set that were even higher off the ground, but they were definitely too much for him!

Drew spent a good portion of the day removing rocks from his shoes. The boys spent last night at Grandma's so he only had the sandals he had worn yesterday. We added socks (very stylish!), but it didn't help with keeping the rocks out.
A little rock climbing...
Luke is a wild man! Holly helped him get a hold on the monkey bars, and he thought it was hilarious to hang for a minute and then let Holly catch him.
Mallory is definitely more cautious, but she had fun, too!
The girls were definitly better at rock climbing than Brady - they just had less fear I think.
Attempting a group pic - not too bad, if only Rachel had been looking...

A better day

Today was much less stressful than yesterday. We met Scott and family and Bryan's parents for lunch. The men did a little shopping afterwards with the big kids, and then Holly, Mary and I did a little outlet shopping and went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to take care of a shower and wedding gift. While the big kids were out, Mallory and Luke spent some quality time playing in the backyard. It's fun to watch them interact - they definitely like each other and are aware of what the other is doing. Later tonight, Mallory was giving out kisses and Luke decided to plant one on her. He kept coming back for more, and at one point, starting running after her once she decided she'd had enough. When he caught up to her, she pushed him a little to make sure he understand she wasn't interested, and then she slapped him in the face when he persisted... it was hilarious!! If only we had gotten it on video... Of course, she didn't hit him hard enough to even phase him and it didn't deter him at all!

Wasted time

Today was definitely disappointing! Scott & Holly had tickets to the rodeo tonight, so our plan was to head out with them to the carnival, to see the animals, and then eat dinner together before the show at 6:45. Well, we headed that way.... and two hours later, decided to head home! It took us about an hour to get in the general vicinity, and then we spent an hour fighting traffic to get into a parking lot. We weren't any closer to parking after the second hour than the first, and the kids had had enough. When Brady started crying and said he would rather go home, I made the executive decision to cut our losses and head home. Of course, that's what Bryan wanted in the first place so that was fine with him. I just heard from Holly that they waited in line for the ferris wheel for an hour and a half, so I guess our decision wasn't half bad!

Movie review

Just got home from seeing Remember Me - it was really good! It's not too often that I get surprised by a movie, but I was by this one. As a side note, one of the previews was for Eclipse. Not too surprising considering Robert Pattinson was in the movie we were seeing... anyway, I was disappointed with the preview we saw. When I first saw the preview for New Moon, it made me want to see the movie RIGHT that minute, and I went home and watched it again online. This preview did nothing of the sort. I wondered if it was just me, but Kelly wasn't impressed either...

Spring Break

Scott and Holly are in town for spring break, so we spent the day with them today. They're heading to San Antonio tomorrow, so we'll be home for the next two days - just enough time for me to do some laundry, and for Brady to go to space camp on Tuesday. The countdown is now on for Vegas, 6 days and counting...

Also, tomorrow I'm getting an estimate on replacing the flooring in my entryway and living room. I want to rip up the carpet and get either hardwood or laminate. I'm thinking when I see the price, I will decide on laminate...lol. But, I really have no idea of the price of either, so maybe they are equally as bad! Bryan won't like the price of either (considering neither is free!), so I'm curious to see what kind of money we're talking about.

Let the games begin!

Tonight was Brady's first t-ball game of the season. We have officially graduated to little league, rather than playing for the park and recs dept. for the city. In this t-ball league, the coach pitches three balls to the batter. If the batter doesn't get a hit, then he gets a chance to hit off the tee. Today, Brady had two great hits. His last one was nothing to write home about, but I know he was happy that all his hits were from coach pitches.

He didn't see any action the first inning, but at least he's paying attention!
In the second inning, he got to play first base. He fielded several balls well and even caught one thrown by another player.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any pics of him batting. It didn't help that his back was facing me - maybe next week we will be sitting on the opposite side. Bryan was helping out with the team, so I was trying to deal with both Drew and Mallory and take pics. Mallory was fine, Drew was a bit of a pill! He kept getting up and down and, of course, eventually fell down inside the bleachers. I think it scared him more than anything, but then it took forever for him to calm back down. He did his usual share of whining and complaining and couldn't accept that the team snacks were not meant for him :( Next game, I think I will hit the concession stand and get something to help occupy him - not that he didn't eat three snacks while we were there today...

Exhaustion

Drew fell asleep yesterday afternoon on the way home from swimming - right around 4:30 p.m. I tried to wake him up a couple times, but he was really out of it. The first time I actually checked to make sure he was breathing because I couldn't get him to stir. After the second attempt a half hour later, I left him be. He slept until 6 a.m. this morning! And then, on the way home from school today, he fell asleep again. I woke him up after a two hour nap. Not sure what's going on?? Maybe a growth spurt...

New charms

I'm loving the two new flower charms I added to my bracelet!

Mallory's world

A couple of changes in Mallory's life this week - first, I finally took away her bottles for good. Most of you know that taking the bottle from both boys was a piece of cake. I took them away right after their first birthday, and it wasn't a problem. Mallory was a little different - she didn't have trouble with sippy cups, just didn't want anything but juice coming from them! I tried giving her milk in a cup shortly after her first birthday. It didn't go well, and I let it slide. Of course, time passes really quickly and all of a sudden she's 18 months! So, I went out and bought special Dora sippy cups. She seems to accept that those are where her milk will now be coming from...

Today I discovered her first molar has broken through. I went to write it down in her baby book and realized I hadn't recorded any of her other teeth since #1 and #2. Good thing I have this blog to look back on!

Bunk beds

Here they are - their first night in their new beds! As I've told a few people, I'm very happy with how the beds look in their room and how sturdy they are. I'm excited to see how the room is going to turn out!

Score!

I'm pleased to tell you that I already sold both Brady and Drew's beds plus Drew's bedding. Not only that, but all three people have already come and picked everything up! So, the boys are sleeping tonight on their mattresses on the floor. They thought that was pretty cool - Mallory thought it was AWESOME! She was walking/running from one mattress to the other and having a grand time. Bryan suggested we go ahead and pick up the bunk beds. I hadn't decided if we would go ahead and do that simply because it would be easier for me to paint without them in the room. However, after seeing all the kids and how they treated the mattresses on the floor, I'm definitely glad we'll be putting the new beds together soon! Of course, Brady's excited about the prospect of sleeping on the top bunk... it will be interesting to see if he likes it as much as he thinks he will :)

Happy Birthday to me!

It's been a productive birthday. I took Mallory to school today and ran around town. I'm happy to report that I found a bunk bed for the boys! The great thing is that they can hold it at the store for a while, so I don't need to pick it up until I'm ready for it. I've already taken pics of Brady and Drew's current beds and posted them on craigslist. If I don't get any takers soon, I'm going to commit myself to having a garage sale shortly after Easter. I'd like to do it sooner, but the month is just too busy!

I did go to lunch with a friend and plan on cracking open a bottle of champagne after dinner :) Of course, there are presents waiting to be opened, which drives Brady crazy. How dare I wait until Bryan gets home from work! If Brady had his way, I would have opened them at 6:00 a.m. this morning...lol.

Boys' room

My next big project around the house is going to be the boy's room. I was happy to finally find some bedding I like today. I bought it for one bed and am planning on getting Mary's help to make something for the other. I have pretty much decided on bunk beds but am not having a lot of luck finding ones I want to pay for. I've looked around online quite a bit and went to Rooms to Go today. I can find some for a decent price, but not in the natural color that would go with the furniture in their room. I love the dark wood, but I'm just not sure I could live with it next to their dresser and storage unit that are so light!

I'm seriously considering having a garage sale to get rid of a bunch of stuff. Who's going to talk me out of it? Heather? I know it's a lot of work, but I haven't had much luck recently trying to sell things on craigs list, and I feel like if I make the effort to do the garage sale, I will feel better about giving away the things that don't sell.

We're going to be pretty busy the next few weeks, so my hope is to find beds soon so that I can start painting and getting rid of stuff right after Easter. Somewhere in there I'm going to work on my niece's baby album, too. No shortage of stuff to do, that's for sure!
