Busy Weekend Ahead!

Drew's birthday party is Saturday afternoon.... of course, he is super excited!  He is having a Power Rangers birthday, and I must say that Power Rangers "stuff" isn't too easy to come by.  I bought all the kiddos matching birthday shirts to wear to the party, ordered a Power Rangers cake, and am giving out chocolate bars as a party favor - complete with a Power Rangers wrapper :)  Needless to say, they will be sitting in my refrigerator until it is time to walk out the door for the party. lol

With Drew's actual birthday falling on Sunday, he had chosen long ago to go to Chuck E. Cheese for his special day.  We had a change of plans today, though, as Bryan discovered a Star Wars exhibit at one of the local museums... one we have never been to.  So, we gave Drew the option, and he decided he would rather go to the museum.  I also told him he could pick somewhere to go for lunch first, and without hesitation, he decided on Jason's Deli.

For Drew and Mallory's sake, I wish they had birthdays during the school year instead of the summer. But, I will say that it's nice to have them in the summer - it's fun to look forward to them without trying to plan around too many holidays, baseball games, etc.

Trip to Schlitterbahn

Grandma Farris treated us to a day at Schlitterbahn today.  In her words, it was the perfect ratio - 4 adults to 3 kids. lol  My Aunt Joyce was supposed to go but wasn't feeling well, so Bryan's mom ended up coming along with my mom and Aunt Jean.

Drew's favorites were the many slides he rode
and the pirate ships they played on.

I didn't ask Mallory afterwards, but she seemed
to have the same preferences.

Brady's favorites were definitely
riding the river and rapids.

I posted a short video on facebook of Brady and I going down one of the rapids.  We just got a new pocket videocamera and ended up with the Kodak Playsport which is waterproof.

Highs and Lows

My days this week seemed to revolve around scrapbooking... much more than usual, anyway! I started the week finding out my page had made layout of the week.  A couple days later, I got an invitation from a designer at Two Peas to be on her creative team! I was super excited because it was SO unexpected - she saw my gallery at Two Peas and liked it enough to ask me to be part of her team.  For those that have no idea what this involves, it means that when she designs a kit (papers, alphas, embellishments, etc). she allows the members of her team to download it for free so that they can complete a layout showcasing the kit.  If I'm understanding correctly, I will have access to pretty much anything at her store, how awesome is that?  Anyway, I'm responsible for 3-4 layouts per month so I did tell her I would like to try it out for a month to see how it goes.  That doesn't sound like a lot, but I normally spend a minimum of 2 hours on a layout, and I don't scrap everyday.  After some trials and tribulation, I finally got her blinkie posted on my blog, so feel free to click on it and see her work - Edeline Marta Design :)

On to the lows!  I was almost finished with another layout of Reagan and Mallory when the file started acting crazy.  I was deathly afraid something was wrong with photoshop... which seemed really cruel given I had just received the creative team invitation.  So, I popped on over to the Sweet Shoppe forum and tried to describe the craziness that was going on.  Let me just say, I love it over there! One of my biggest fears getting in the whole digital thing was that I didn't have anyone to ask questions of.  The ladies over at Sweet Shoppe have really become my resource, and some of them know more about photoshop than I ever will!  Anyway, after a full day of trying their suggestions, one of the designers made a suggestion that allowed me to fix the problem.  I was so happy to have it fixed, not only because I was able to save my layout, but also to avoid this again in the future.  Not surprisingly, it came down to an error I had made, but this was much preferable to there being something wrong with the program! lol  My plan was to get the layout done and include it with this post, but I've been too lazy to finish it yet... maybe tomorrow :)

This is not my usual style, but I wanted to do something fun with these pics so I went with this super hero kit.  I spent a good chunk of time working on it, but I think the end result is worth it!

Layout of the Week

Went to read the blog over at Sweet Shoppe Designs and discovered I had been picked for layout of the week! I'm super excited, especially because the designer that picked it is one of my favs :)

Here it is:

Happy Father's Day...

to some of our favorite dads!

Bryan is spending his Father's Day today relaxing at home.  He slept in this morning, and the kids ran to greet him when he got up.  Mallory, especially, was excited to let him know his presents were wrapped and on the table.  Nothing too terribly exciting, but the kids each made him a pop-top can with sweets inside and a note/picture on the outside.  For dinner, I am fixing manicotti, and I'm sure that will be the highlight of his day! lol

Let me preface this by saying that Drew is a SUPER picky eater, in case you didn't already know.  So, this evening, I put half a grape on his plate and told him he had to eat it.  HALF A GRAPE.  I also told him if he didn't eat it that he wouldn't be able to go to the pool with us after dinner.  He cried for a good ten minutes and had to go to his room to calm down.  When he was back in the kitchen, he came to my chair and gave me his puppy dog eyes.  While I did feel a little sad for him, I told him he still had to eat it.  I did, however, give him the choice of half a strawberry instead.  I also made sure he understood it would be larger than half a grape. lol  Ten minutes later, he decided to opt for the strawberry.  It took four bites and some more whining before he muscled it down.  This is why I choose to let him eat the few things he likes and not worry about it...  It's too stressful, otherwise!

When I went to Target this afternoon, I bought Mallory a pink bathing suit with a tutu attached.  I decided that it could serve as her leotard at her gymnastics party this summer.  When I got home, she took one look at it and said she wasn't wearing it.  This really surprised me, although I should also say that nothing she does surprises me, if that makes any sense! lol  After dinner, I asked her to try it on. She refused.  After some bargaining, I got it on her but she wasn't happy.  I promptly turned the t.v. on and found a Dora episode where she is doing ballet.  I kid you not, after literally 20 seconds of watching it and seeing Dora wearing a leotard, she was smiling and dancing around like a ballerina.  "I turned into Dora," she told me.  Ha!  Not surprisingly, she then agreed she should wear it to her party :)  A few minutes after we took it off, she told me, "I turned back into myself." Problem solved... for today, anyway!

Mallory's first haircut

A couple not-so-great shots of Mallory after her haircut.  I didn't get any pics of the actual haircut because she was sitting in my lap.  Should have thought to take the point and shoot camera so Brady could have taken a few... oh well!

We've been talking this up for a few weeks, so I DID expect her to go through with it without too much fuss.  Brandi did NOT and was surprised that she cooperated :) However, the whole thing only lasted a few minutes.  All Brandi did was even out the length so that the sides and back are the same.  It does look much better, though.  Mallory's hair is still fairly thin and she has several cowlicks, so that's about all we can do for now! lol

Family fun - part 2

Marc and family left for home today.  We had lots of fun together, and the kids were definitely sad to see them go.  Drew wanted to know immediately when we would see them again, and Brady got a little teary-eyed in the car after saying goodbye last night.  The fact that everyone was exhausted by then probably didn't help!

The girls are so stinkin' cute... esp. dressed alike!

Water gun fight at Grandma's house

Love this pic of Drew running! lol

A little baseball practice

Fun with chalk

A trip to the Children's Museum

Mallory got a tad bit wet playing with boats :)

Cooling off with the slip n' slide

On a different note, work seems to be slowing back down for Bryan... at least for the time being.  Tomorrow is our last swimming lesson, and next week the boys will be going to vacation bible school.  Drew's birthday is a little over two weeks away, so he's gearing up for that! We are working on party favors, I ordered his Power Rangers cake today, and he has made his gift requests known to anyone who will listen.

Family Fun!

Bryan's brother and family are in town for a long weekend.  It's been a year since we saw them last, and the kids were super excited to get together today :)  We all had a great time at the pool this morning, and the older kids are looking forward to the Astros' game tomorrow afternoon.

Trying for that group shot is always interesting. lol

Four long days...

Our internet and phone have been down since Thursday, thus my lack of blogging.  Brady finished up school on the same day, and I had two layouts ready to post to coincide with the end of the school year.  I guess it was not meant to be, so here they are several days later!

My intention has always been to have a separate school album for each child.  However, after kindergarten last year, I never got around to starting Brady's.  This year I felt motivated to get started on it and did both his K and 1st grade years.  Once I have them printed, I will decide what all I am going to include in the scrapbook - possibly just these pages and his class picture, but maybe some of his work that I've saved, too.

I did my best to keep the layouts simple and let the pictures shine :)
