Australia, Day One

My mom and I arrived in Sydney on Monday morning, only to discover it had been raining for days.  Our original plan had been to do a bike tour of the city, but we axed that as soon as we saw what the weather was like.  We took a taxi to our hotel to find out (of course) that it was too early to check in.  So, we rifled through our luggage for some rain gear and headed down to Darling Harbor, which was a fifteen minute walk from out hotel.  First stop, Sydney Aquarium:

There were lots of cool lego displays, like this one -

Platypus

Weedy Sea Dragon

Leefy Sea Dragon - would never have known this
was an animal if Mom hadn't been watching it.  It
literally looked just like seaweed.

Mourning Cuttlefish

Warm weather penguins

A crappy picture of a dugong - he was so cool, though!

There were two huge tanks that went over your head.
I saw the biggest ray I have even seen in my life.  I
didn't take a pic, knowing there would be no way
to get perspective of how BIG it was!

The size of this tank was amazing, so I left the
people in to give an idea of how massive it was!

It cleared up some while we were in the aquarium,
so we made our way to the harbor and had some lunch.

After heading back to the hotel, we walked down to
Circular Quay (transportation hub) and took a ferry
out to Manly Beach.  You can see how the skies are
getting worse again. By the time we made it down to
the beach, there was no visibility.  Disappointing!
I have many, many pics of the opera house
(definitely better than this one) - but this was
my first view of it from the water.

I'm home!

Almost 24 hours after arriving at the Sydney airport for my departure, I made it home!  I got a warm reception from everyone, so that made me happy :)  The kids enjoyed their souvenirs... Mallory is sleeping with her stuffed  kangaroo tonight, and Brady has made plans to wear his new t-shirt and crocodile tooth necklace to school tomorrow.  The boys were thrilled with their boomerangs and can't wait to try them out.  Brady wants to show it off at school, so I told him to ask his teacher tomorrow if he could bring it to school the next day.  He also wanted to know how soon I would have pictures printed out for him to show off, too.  They also liked the books Grandma bought them but haven't hide a chance to sit down and really go through them yet.  Brady told me he wished that tomorrow was Saturday so that Daddy would be home, too, and so that he could spend some extra time with me.  I think I will surprise him at school tomorrow and come for lunch.  It's not like I have anything to do after being gone for ten days. lol  Having said that, I really appreciate the state of the house I came home to - vacuumed, laundry done, and a recent trip to the grocery store.  Can't say thanks enough to Mary!

Only two more days!!

I've gotten a lot of stuff done for my trip... unfortunately, I still need to do laundry tomorrow, vacuum the house, and pack!  I've definitely decided there is actually more to be done for the kids I'm leaving behind  than there is to do for myself. LOL  Grocery shopping, lists for grandma, clothes washed and organized, etc.

I took a ride around the neighborhood on Bryan's bike to make sure I still know how to ride one... can't even remember the last time I've ridden a bike. Especially one that wasn't at the gym.  I'm hoping the weather will hold out because the first thing on our agenda is a bike tour of Sydney.  I mentioned to Bryan that his bike is a piece of crap  it's a good thing we won't be riding for the whole four hours the tour lasts - can't imagine how sore I would be!  He mentioned how exhausted I will be by the end of our trip. After a lot of walking, snorkeling, white water rafting, and kayaking, I am sure he is right! Maybe I will be so tired that I will be able to sleep most of the 18 hours it takes to get home... ha!

Spring Break

So far, we have played in the backyard, took a trip to Jumpin' Jungle, and went to see Tangled.  Tomorrow we are meeting friends at a local park and having a picnic lunch.  Thursday I have promised a trip to Target (or wherever else) so the boys can buy something with the money that is burning a hole in their wallets... Of course, they have been on their best behavior because I put that condition on taking said trip. lol

I am getting things ready for my trip and have just started to think about how long I will be away from the kids :(  I do NOT look forward to Mallory's reaction when I get home after being away so long... maybe I will be pleasantly surprised?? I won't hold my breath on that one!

Backyard Fun

Mallory took two of her babies out to swing :)
Here, they are taking a milk break.

She is NOT a fan of windy weather. lol

Ugh!

Drew thought it was HILARIOUS to let Mallory's
baby slide down and hit the ground or throw
her over the side.

Brady spent some time sharpening his baseball skills.

Drew decided to use chalk to customize his "bike."

I don't have the patience for this...

I wanted to upload some pics of the kids, but blogger is crazy today.  When I click on an image, it acts like it is uploading, then disappears.  Can't say I've ever seen that before!  Rather than get really irritated, I will try again tomorrow :)

Bryan, a layout of you!

All-Star by Kristin Cronin-Barrow
Jumbo Shape Templates by Libby Pritchett

Patty sent me this pic of Bryan - her husband Adam wanted her to take a few pics while they were brewing their latest batch of beer.  Not that I couldn't take pics of Bryan brewing at home... just hadn't thought to do it!

Go Rockhounds!

Brady's baseball season kicked off last night.  Opening Day was scheduled for this past Saturday, but it got rained out.  I'm very happy to say that Brady had a good game!  His next two games will be while Bryan and I are in Australia, so it made me especially happy that he did well :)  His first hit scored our first run, and he scored himself a couple of times.  He also played first base and made some good plays there.  Of course, we still have a lot of work to do learning to catch and field ground balls! lol

I did not take the camera since our game was at night, but I did take a couple shots at the house.  I also discovered that I need to take the video camera to his next game.  I'm not sure what changed between this season and last, but he was hilarious to watch last night.  Every time he got a hit or scored, he threw his hands up in the air and celebrated like it was the best thing that ever happened to him.  Gotta love the enthusiasm!

Does he look old here??

Happy Birthday to me!

Turned 36 on Friday :)  Karen and Brooke took me to lunch at Chuy's, and then I went out to dinner with Bryan and the kids.  The boys made me cards - each with a picture of a birthday cake... with only four candles, which I liked. lol  I got a new water bottle (which Mallory thinks is hers), and the Kindle I wanted. I figured it would be handy for my upcoming trip (i.e. many, many hours on the plane).

I'm also loving my new necklace - one of my finds when mom took me shopping for my birthday last weekend.  I did a little shopping on etsy, too. I found a really cute baseball bracelet to wear for Brady's games, so I'm excited to get that in the mail.  I also used the Amazon gift card Julie got me to buy an underwater camera.  I was going to buy a disposable one, but they had an inexpensive digital camera with an underwater case, so I went with that instead.  If it's as the reviews say, it will last not only for snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, but I can also take pictures with it at the pool and beach this summer.  I'll keep my fingers crossed!

OK, couldn't stand it... had to have a title! lol
Also decided I needed a pop of color behind the
pale pink background after looking at it online :)

Playtime

Playdough is always a winner at our house.  The most popular
activity at the moment is cutting out the foods, shapes, etc. for
the mats that came in Mallory's Sesame Street set.

Over the weekend, our Geotrax collection was pulled out
of the boys' closet and set up in the dining room.  Drew and
Mallory have played with it quite a bit...

Mallory pulled Diego and Dora from her dollhouse
collection, and has been putting them in their "wagons".
Unfortunately, they don't always cooperate, and it is
HILARIOUS to listen to her...

"Don't do that, Dora!!" "Stop, Diego...stop!!"
"Put your BUTT in there!!"
Not sure when she made the switch from "hiney"
to "butt" - that's a fairly recent development. lol

Berry Sweet!

Berry Sweet by Meghan Mullens

To say I love this kit would be an understatement! I can't wait until I use it again... I only scratched the surface of all the cute embellishments Meghan included :)  I am submitting this layout to Inspired Blueprints - they are having a design team call, and I am applying for a digital spot on their team.  Here is the sketch I was given -

I'm very happy with what I've done so far.  My only hesitation is that I don't have a title.  If you have an opinion, voice it.  Should I leave it alone or try to add a title? I did attempt to add one, but couldn't come up with anything I liked - it seemed like it was taking away from the rest of the layout.
