Two days and counting...

While Mallory and Drew have already been out of school for over a week, Brady still has two days left.  I am ready for him to be home - it works out more in my favor for Brady and Drew to play together rather than Drew and Mallory.  The younger two have been playing together much more recently, but once they get on each other's nerves, that's it!  Drew tries his best to assert himself with her, but it's a no win situation, in my opinion. lol

Next week, we start swimming lessons. No clue how that is going to go.  Brady will be fine.  I think Drew will be, too, just hesitant in the beginning.  I'm not even going to predict how Mallory will do.  I will be in the water with her... I don't think she would be willing to cooperate otherwise.  I am hoping there will be a few other kids in the class that set a good example for her :)

I haven't taken ANY pictures recently.  When I looked back, I did find a few of the kids helping out in the garden that I don't think I ever got around to posting last month. So, here they are!

Sketch 75

Here is the latest sketch over at Inspired Bluprints -
AV Hero Traci Reed

The journaling:

I was so excited to be taking you to your first concert!  Daddy was going to be out of town, so I recruited Marianne to go with us.  I decided I wasn’t going to tell you about it until the day of, and hoped that Drew wouldn’t be too upset that he wouldn’t be going.  Unfortunately, that turned out to be a non-issue because the real issue was you missing one of your baseball games. It was the end-of-the-season tournament, so it wasn’t until the saturday before the big day that we found out a game was scheduled for the same night.  Daddy was adament that you play in the game, and I was equally determined to not miss out on this concert experience with you! In the end, Daddy decided to let you make the deicision.  I know he was disappointed that you didn’t choose to play, but I think the fact that your team lost 16-1 might have softened the blow a bit...

Even before we left that evening, you wanted to know how you could repay me for taking you to see Bon Jovi, so I had high hopes that this was going to be a really memorable experience for us both!  It was great fun... you heard your two favorite songs (you give love a bad name and my life) and I’m sure some of the people around us wondered how you knew so many of the words at the age of 7. lol  I also enjoyed hearing you sing bad medicine in the shower the next day!  I’m so happy to have shared this with you and that you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Hallelujah... it's done!

Presenting... Mallory's big girl room!
Excuse the first crappy pic... but I wanted a full view
of what you see when you look in from the hallway,
and this is the best I can get!

It will look even better when we take the side
off the crib and can show off her quilt more :)

Over the changing table

I used two digital kits to make the canvases - Fall Forest by Heather Roselli and Falling for Her from Meghan Mullens.  I printed everything at home, and then bought a few flowers, raffia, and greenery to give it some dimension. I think, if asked, that Mallory would say she still likes her old room better.  Maybe with time, it will grow on her.  She does like the butterflies, though!

Settling down...

Things seem to be settling down around here, finally! The Vests left yesterday afternoon - everyone was sad to see them go, but it was great to have a chance to visit.  Brady's baseball season has come to an end, he got his trophy tonight.  He was the only kid on the team to go the whole season without striking out, pretty impressive! However, I did tell him not to expect that from now on...  Mallory had a bit of a stomach bug over the weekend and passed it along to Bryan and I.  She seems to be over it, and Bryan and I are feeling much better today than yesterday.

With any luck, Mallory's room will be done tomorrow.  I hope to take some pictures during the day and get them on the computer asap! It feels like I have been working on it forever... but, I'm very happy with the way it's turning out.  As usual, one thing has led to another, which means a few projects tacked on the end I wasn't expecting.  No big deal, just more time invested than I originally planned!

Here are some pics from our day at Kemah with Grandma & Grandpa.  They bought ride passes for the kids, and Mallory had fun picking which adult would go with her on each ride. lol

Riding on the top isn't the greatest for pictures...

Mallory loved the airplanes. She rode three times :)

Brady STILL talks about how the "gunfight" at the
end of the train ride scared him when he was little...

he practically talked Drew and Mallory out
of riding it this particular day.

I'm surprised that Brady hasn't yet said to me - this is the best week ever!  Friday we went to Putt Putt, Sunday was Kemah with Grandma & Grandpa Farris (pictures to come), Tuesday was the Bon Jovi concert, and last night his BFF Zack and family flew in from St. Louis.  I let all the kids stay home from school today, and Julie and I took them to lunch and to jump at a local bounce house.  Bounce house pictures never seem to come out so great (can't imagine why!), but the kids had a lot of fun.

I've been busy!

I finally finished up teacher appreciation gifts tonight.  I really enjoy giving handmade gifts, but it makes it difficult when you need to make five of everything!  I used some card templates and filled them in using some of my favorite digital kits.  I then printed them out, added a little dimension, and put them in a cute bag I made.  I also found a fun appreciation gift idea on domestically-speaking.com involving m&m's and threw that in the bag, too.

I'm happy with the final product...
esp. since I'm done! lol

Each teacher is getting a set of 5 cards -
something practical that everyone can use!

Sweet treat and poem

Thank you notes from the kiddos

Inside of the thank you notes, I included a few things the kids told me when I asked about school.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Mallory -

What was your favorite thing to learn about in school?  numbers
Which numbers did you learn about?    B!
Who gets in trouble in your class?    Not me!!

Drew -

What do you think your teachers will do over the summer?   watch t.v.
How much do you think your teachers get paid?  $25...per hour

Friday Fun

This past Friday was Drew's preschool graduation.  Grandma came, which was good considering Bryan ended up working that day and the next.

Celebrating with his teachers

Hard to believe he'll be in kindergarten
in the fall when he's not even 5 yet!

Later that afternoon, we headed to Putt Putt Fun House.  I had purchased some passes several months ago and was running out of time to use them.  Thankfully, Grandma didn't mind tagging along since Daddy wasn't available.

Brady was convinced he would beat me.
I won by 11 strokes - he owes me some type
of chore, which is yet to be determined. lol

Grandpa Farris would have been horrified
to see how Drew and Mallory were
swinging the club!

Mallory let me help, twice.  After that, she did her
own thing - which mostly consisted of putting
the ball right next to the hole (not even an inch away)
 and hitting it in.

Mallory thought she wanted part of Battle Zone...

turns out none of us did because it involved getting wet!
Believe me, there were no smiles after that...

 Trying out some arcade games

Drew rode the bumper cars the first time and
opted to sit out when Brady went back.

This is more my speed!
