Mallory's first day

As I mentioned, we went to meet Mallory's teachers last Friday.  I left not really knowing how well she would do when we returned for her first day today.  This morning she was enthusiastic about going and not very happy with me when we came back home after dropping her brothers off at school - she wanted to go right then!  There were a few moments when she wasn't so sure about going, but in general she kept a positive attitude, so I was optimistic.  When we got to the door, I had to nudge her a little bit, but once she was in... no problem! She ran right to her teachers and gave them their first day treats :)

I thought I could get away with using her Dora
backpack again, but no such luck. The lunchbox
had a stain on the back I didn't recall, and now that
she takes a towel to school for rest time,
I couldn't make everything fit!

Settling in...

Apple cupcakes for her friends - she was happy
to tell everyone she helped!

First thing I did with my newfound freedom was go grocery shopping - boo! But, then I went to the movies, so I guess that made up for it :)

Yin Template 247

I'm slowly working my way down my "to do" list of layouts.  I completed my Australia album months ago, but also wanted to have a layout to put in our family scrapbook.  So, here it is!   It already feels like ages since our trip, so it was fun to look back through the pictures again :)

For those that didn't see my post on facebook, Drew made his first friend at school on Friday.  He had a big smile on his face when he told me, so sweet :)  Next thing to work on - what is this boy's name?? lol  Apparently he sits at the green table, and Drew sits at the yellow.  They played tag together at recess, and he told Drew his name... he just couldn't remember it by the time he got home! lol

I took Mallory to meet her teachers on Friday.  She was glued to me and barely pulled her face out of my shoulder to look at them.  But, once I took her to the back of the room and showed her the other kids playing with toys, she was fine.  She saw several familiar faces from last year, and even remembered their names.  I'm sure she will still be upset about me dropping her off on Tuesday, but she will be fine once I leave.

On a different note, we sold Bryan's Civic today. Woo hoo!

No pics of the kiddos today, so I'll post a couple layouts I finished this week.  The first is of Drew's birthday.  I couldn't find a kit or template I was just thrilled about using, so I ended up doing something simple.

This one is from our family vacation this summer.  I think we were all pleasantly surprised by how well this group photo turned out, and I was happy to get it in digital format so I could scrap it as usual :)

Fun little project

I've been keeping my eye out for something to put on Mallory's new dresser.  I had a few ideas and had pretty much settled on some type of jewelry tree, when I rediscovered this at Hobby Lobby -

I knew it was WAY too green, but figured I could fix that :)

I used the brown paint I had left over
from the tree I painted on Mallory's wall...

Had Bryan hang it on the wall,
and put her jewelry on it!

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the three flowers are on dowel rods, so they sit a few inches off the tree.  Because of the way it is hung on the wall, the branches are not actually touching anything, so I'm able to use those, too.  I'm pretty happy with it, especially for how inexpensive it was and how little time I put into the project!

Kindergarten - Day Three

Last night I told Drew that I would take him to get ice cream if he could make it through the whole school day without crying (it had to be by the end of the week).  He didn't seem convinced that today could be the day, but when I picked him up this afternoon, I could tell by the look on his face that he had made it!  We'll see how tomorrow goes, but I think he's warming up :)

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Today didn't start off as well, but that's to be expected.  I think it's going to be a long week because the boys already looked pretty darn exhausted this morning!  Drew kept telling me he didn't get enough sleep... not sure what I was supposed to do about that. lol

Neither was thrilled with their day yesterday.  Brady said, "We did work.  All. Day. Long!" as if he couldn't believe his teacher had the audacity to do "real" work on the first day.  Drew looked relieved to see me when I picked him up.  He said he cried three times while at school.  Honestly, if he had made it the whole day without crying at all, I would have been really impressed! I didn't get a note from the teacher, so my assumption is that it wasn't too bad.  I'm certain she's used to her kindergarteners crying on the first day :)  I challenged him this morning to try not to cry at all.  He said, "How about I cry LESS than three times?" To which I said, "How about not at all?"  He also reported that he didn't make any friends yet. Talk about a knife to Mommy's heart! Not that I'm really concerned, hopefully it will just take a few days for him to get comfortable and make some friends.

First Day of School

The day couldn't have started off any better.  The boys didn't fight or whine this morning while getting dressed.  Drew said he was a little nervous, but didn't complain about getting ready for his first day.  We snapped a few photos and made our way over to the school.  I got a great parking spot and dropped both boys off with no tears!

Pics of their backpacks, per their request :)

A little first day treat for the teachers...

The "apples" are rice krispie treats with strawberry
jello added in, a tootsie roll stem and laffy taffy leaves.

I can only hope that picking up the boys from school and hearing about their day will be as positive as our experience this morning!

I finally got around to scrapping the great pics I got on Mother's Day...

I used a bunch of Edeline Marta's products on this (and a template from Jady Day Studio) - if you are interested in the credits, here is the link to the layout in my gallery at Two Peas.

I've been waiting for this day...

Bryan finally broke down and bought a new car :)  We test drove a Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry and ended up with the Camry.  Now all we need to do is get rid of his old Civic!

My little girl is 3!!

Some pics from her special day :)

First stop - Palm Beach

The boys spent most of their time in the water...

Mallory wasn't interested in going down the slide,
but I took her down once so she could see what
she was missing.  Not much, in her opinion!

She was much happier doing this...

Bryan took the day off to celebrate :)

Taking her new Dora mermaid for a swim

Next stop, Dora & Diego's 4D Adventure!

Mallory wasn't too interested in the glasses, but was
convinced to put them on once the movie started.
Good thing it only lasted 12 minutes because I
had to hold them on her face the whole time!

Off to lunch at the Rainforest Cafe.  It was neat inside
(as I remembered), but the food wasn't so great :(

A little tired??

Presents!  Her plan - to open all the Dora presents
first, then the big Minnie Mouse one, then
the other one.  She kept telling us this on the way home.

I got off pretty cheap on her gifts, less than $50 -
that's the beauty of only being three! Of course, we
spent way more than that on her party and our
adventures today, so I guess it evens out. lol

Party Day!

It always pays off to take a few pics at the house before we leave for the party... in all the craziness,
I normally forget to take pics of things I wanted or the kids are too tired, excited, etc. to cooperate!  In this particular case, I'm happy I took a pic of the cake at home.  Once we got it to the party, some of the icing was already starting to melt!

The treat bags I made - they are Dora's friend
Backpack, in case you're not up to speed with her show :)

The ever popular foam pit... except Mallory isn't
a fan. I think she got in once.  Most of her time was
spent on the trampolines or in the bounce house.

One of the favorite activities at the party -
spinning around on this rope, then falling
into the pit.  Of course, Mallory wanted no part of it! lol

Another popular one - hanging from this bar
and falling in...

Time for cake!  Mallory was proud of herself for
blowing out the candles because last year
she was too afraid to do it.

Mmmm!

Presents!
She was pretty selective about which presents she wanted to open - it seemed like she was picking based on the bag or wrapping paper. lol  The biggest bag in the back had Tinkerbell, and she didn't want to open it for some reason.  Once she did, she was excited to see a Dora mermaid in there :)  Her last present from Grandma and Grandpa Farris was a Mickey Mouse tricycle.  She immediately wanted to ride it and was not happy with anyone else trying to touch it!

She has barely gotten off this thing since we brought it home, and I'm pretty darn impressed by how well she can already ride it!
