Valentine's Day (revisited)

I'm really happy so far with the flexibility my new scrapbook gives me.  Compared to a postbound album, the three rings make life so much easier!  For Christmas, the boys went shopping with Bryan and picked out some scrapbooking supplies as a gift for me - mainly paper and stickers.  I decided to do a Valentine's layout with a few of the papers, and then put that beside one of my Project Life pages.  The fact that I can put a traditional layout next to a Project Life page protector next to a digital layout (and move them all around with ease) is awesome!

This was a magnetic frame - I just took the back
off to make it less bulky and adhered it to the
back of the page above.  I tried to remove the pic
from the frame, but some of the hearts are stuck to it :(

Wrapping up

I still have a handful of layouts from 2011 that are on my list to finish.  WAIT... make that two! I thought I had four or five left, but I just went to look at my list and it's actually 2 - yay!  Here's the one I just finished up:
Give Thanks - Kristin Cronin-Barrow
Cindy Schneider - template from half pack #23

I subscribe to newsletters from 4-5 digital scrapbooking sites, and each week they send an email out showing off their new releases.  I can't tell you how surprised I was this week when I saw this:

Really, what are the chances that someone would come out with a kit related to Seattle... especially right around the time when I am planning on a vacation there??  Perhaps the designer just visited herself, but whatever the reason, I think it's pretty awesome!

I'm pretty excited...

for two reasons.  The first is that Mallory is FINALLY showing some interest in potty training!  On Saturday, she asked to wear her "big girl" panties.  She has been wearing them ever since and says she is done wearing pull-ups.  She's definitely not fully trained yet but seems to be headed in the right direction.  She is reluctant to go #2 in the potty, and I have promised a trip to Chuck E. Cheese if she starts doing it by the end of the week.  I'm encouraged because she says she will.  Of course, I fully realize that saying it and doing it are two completely different things, but in the past she wasn't willing to agree to it, so it's progress :)  I've known all along that what I'm really waiting for is for HER to say she's ready to be potty trained.  She is very stubborn (big surprise), and the idea that I could potty train her against her will... well, attempting it didn't even seem worth my time!!

Reason #2 for my excitement - new furniture!  I have been tolerating the couch and love seat in the living room for quite some time and decided that it's time to let them go. lol  I thought Bryan might feel differently, but it sounds like he was actually surprised that I waited this long so he didn't object.  To make a LONG story short, my original intention was to replace the couch and love seat with an L-shaped sectional.  In the end, I bought the L-shaped sectional PLUS the chaise on the other end.  We will have to move the piano out of the living room, and I'm pretty certain the chair next to the fireplace will need to go, too.  I was feeling fairly guilty about giving away the piano (it was mine from when I was little), but I found a family that has been looking for a piano they can afford for quite some time. So, I'm excited to pass it along to someone who will appreciate it!  Anyhow, I ordered the sectional last night and it should be here in about six weeks.  Hopefully more like 4, but I won't hold my breath.  Also, I picked the fabric from a small 3 inch swatch, so who knows how it will turn out!

Latest and greatest

I was quite surprised when I went back to my blog and discovered I had never posted any pics from when Bryan and his dad took the boys camping in November. I guess between my 30 days of thanks and December advent activities, I totally forgot!  I was coming back to the blog to help me with the journaling on my layout, so I decided to ask the boys for their help instead.

The next two pages I finished are using the kit from my blog - Love Birds by Zoe Pearn and Shawna Clingermann.  I actually didn't have any particular fondness for the kit when it was first released, but I saw some layouts in the Sweet Shoppe gallery that really caught my eye.  Now that I have it, I love it!  Be sure to click on both of these and read the journaling :)

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day was fairly low-key for us this year.  I went to the kids' parties at school, and we stayed in for dinner.  This Saturday, Bryan and I are going out without the kids, so I am considering that our Valentine night out :)

I made this popcorn mix for the kids' teachers - here is the recipe.  I'm not a huge fan of red hots, but this stuff was tasty!  Bryan took the leftovers to work, and the guys there liked it, too!

Drew's gift to me - valentine frame and pic

Found this first thing in the morning...

and got these flowers later in the day.  I bought
this heart-shaped cheesecake for us to share :)

First party of the day!

Drew's was next...

both he and Brady had ice cream bars at their party.

It wasn't Brady's day - kids around him were getting bingo
left and right and he never got one.

The kids each got their own box of chocolates, which
they have come to expect! lol

Project Life

Since Christmas, I have been excited to get started on our new scrapbook for 2012.  I decided to change things up a bit - I am now using a three ring binder instead of a postbound album, and I have also added some pieces of Project Life to our family album.  Project Life is basically a traditional method of scrapping, but in a simplified way.  The page protectors are divided, and the slots are used for pictures, memorabilia, and journaling.  I got the Project Life core kit for Christmas which includes a variety of inserts for the different pockets.  The idea here is to make things really simple.  The main draw for me is that I can continue to scrap digitally what I am motivated to do, then use Project Life to supplement that.  There are always pics I want to include in our album that I don't have the motivation to scrap or ones that I am simply at a loss of what to do with them.  I also like to have a monthly recap but started to dread working on them - they weren't fun for me to do, even though I was always happy to have them done in the end.

Here's what I have for the month of January... I cheated a bit and included some pics from the end of December when we were in Alabama :)

One of the ladies in the Sweet Shoppe forum included her kids' handwriting on her Project Life layout, and I thought that was a great idea! I may not do it every month, but it will be fun to have that included from time to time.  The only drawback I have seen so far with mixing in Project Life with my regular layouts is that I am committed to at least 4 pages because I need to fill both front and back of the page protectors.  I was imagining just one layout per month, but the only way that would work is if I adhered a regular page protector to the back of the Project Life one... perhaps I will try that to see how it looks.

Monster Jam

Last weekend, Bryan took the boys to the Monster Jam.   Needless to say, they thought it was awesome as expected!  Of course, Bryan thought to take ear plugs, so they didn't spend the whole time complaining about how loud it was.

Unfortunately, the night did NOT start off well.  Bryan got to Reliant well before 7 p.m., but they didn't actually get into the stadium until 7:30 which was half an hour into the show.  Drew was sleeping and blissfully unaware, but Brady was almost in tears about being so late.  Lesson learned - leave two hours early, even if it means a lot of time to kill before the show.  It's better than the stress of dealing with the traffic madness around Reliant :(

I asked the kids which pics to include on my layout. I was instructed to include Grave Digger, Wolverine, Toro, Captain America, and Grinder.  They especially loved when Toro's horns fell off - at full size, you can see them on the ground in the top pic of the bottom filmstrip.

I pulled out my new handy dandy scanner from the box (a Christmas present from my parents) and used it to scan in the tickets.

I haven't scrapped much at all this week, so I am hoping to get a few layouts done this next week... maybe Valentine's Day will motivate me!

Pinky the flamingo

Being super star of the week means that the class "pet" gets to come home and spend the week with you.  Pinky came home with Drew last Friday, and he will be returning to school tomorrow.  We took a few pics of the fun things they did to document their time together :)

Exhausted on the way home!

When Pinky came home Friday,
Drew couldn't stop asking/reminding me
to take a picture of him and Pinky
watching the Super Bowl.  I assured
him I wouldn't forget!

All Star Camp

I FINALLY got the pics I was waiting on from Brady's camp - one of him with Hunter and one at Hunter's hitting station.  I have to say, it cracked me up when I went online and looked at the pics of the kids posing with Hunter.  Some are right next to him, some are far away, some are smiling, some look awkward. When I got to Brady's, it made me smile!  I was hoping I wouldn't be disappointed, and I wasn't :)

Super Star

Drew is very excited to be "super star" of the week in his Kindergarten class.  There are several perks that go along with it - you get to bring home Pinky the class flamingo, make a poster about yourself to share with the class, bring a special snack for the class on Friday, and fill the "guessing jar" for Mrs. G.  He immediately pulled out the guessing jar on Friday after school and wanted to fill it right then and there.  I assured him there would be plenty of time to get it done!  Saturday we worked on selecting pictures for his poster, and this morning he filled the jar with suckers.  We have also been taking pics of him with Pinky to write our journal entry later this week.

Here is his poster - as you can see, he is very proud of it!

It's Friday!

Brady lost another tooth last night!  I will spare you
the details, but he was eating a corn dog when it happened...

Showing off her Valentine pj's - she has been
asking whether it's Valentines Day yet for at LEAST
two weeks now, if not longer. lol

Today is Drew's 100th day of school.  They
like to celebrate it big in K - he made this
shirt with 100 items on it, mostly paint but
some buttons, too :)

I am so happy to have this done! Not because I wasn't enjoying working on it, but because it was time consuming!  However, it was nice to come back to my blog from November and copy/paste what I was thankful for instead of having to retype it all... And, I think this is one of those layouts I will really enjoy looking back on in the future :)
