Flying kites

Park Play - Jady Day Studio & Kay Miller
Scrapping with Liz - mix/match double templates

The kids got kites for Easter from Grandma Dinkel.  Shortly after, she & Grandpa Dinkel came for the day to see Drew & Mallory's soccer game.  It was a particularly windy day, so it was perfect for getting the kites out and heading over to the park.  I tried to stress how important it was to keep a tight hold onto the kites... Mallory actually did the best and didn't let go of hers until we had been out there quite a while.  It's a good thing there were four adults, though - it was difficult to keep the kites in the air AND try to make sure the kids didn't cross paths.  Overall, they did really well with them and had fun :)

Sew Cute and Sweet - Jady Day Studio
Cindy Schneider - half pack #37 template

I shamelessly influenced Mallory's toy choice on our last shopping trip.  She had already received a Lalaloopsy movie and book from the Easter Bunny, and I encouraged her to get a Lalaloopsy doll to round out her new collection :)  It didn't take much influence, though... she jumped on the suggestion as soon as I made it and had no trouble picking something out at the store.  In my defense, this kit is super cute - right??

Thunder t-ball

This should be my last sports page for a while... or a few weeks, anyway. lol  But, I couldn't pass up these fun pics of my nephew playing his first season of t-ball.  He's four and I'm pretty certain he knows more about baseball than I do :)

Go Brady!

Our soccer game yesterday morning was cancelled due to the rain on Friday.  Brady's baseball game went ahead as scheduled.  I was a little concerned given one of the better players on our team just broke his arm this week, and we have only won one game this season.  However, it was an awesome game! The other team scored the first three runs, but we came back a couple innings in and ended up winning :)  Brady made a great play and threw out a kid at home plate from center field... everyone was amazed, I even heard the coaches on the other team talking about it.

He spent two innings in the outfield not seeing any action... until I moved away from the fence and set my camera down.  That's when it came to him and he made the great throw - sounds about right, doesn't it?  Heck, at least I was watching - if I had been in the bathroom with Mallory, I would not have been happy. lol

Stingray Soccer

Even Bigger Picture templates - Little Green Frog Designs

Both of these layouts were done with a kit by Julie Billingsley called Put Me in Coach! The kit is not specific to soccer, it also has football, baseball, and basketball related elements.  When I purchased it, I thought I would get a lot of use out of it between soccer and baseball.  Once I started working on the first layout, though, I was quickly discouraged. I wasn't happy with the way the kit was looking with the pics... esp. since the green in the kit doesn't go at all with the green in their uniforms :(  I decided just to do the best I could with what I had, and in the end, I like both layouts.  Sometimes it's ok if not everything matches...

Sports Update

First, I would like to report that Brady's baseball team finally won a game!!  Lucky #10, I suppose. lol  We have two games this week, but not until Friday and Saturday.  I think we were all exhausted by the end of last week, so it's nice to get a bit of a break :)

We had another soccer game yesterday morning.  While we didn't win, we did score a goal, so things are looking up!  I took Drew to the doctor this week, and we got an inhaler for him to try.  I gave it to him before practice on Thursday. He did great for the first 55 minutes of practice, then was feeling bad again.  His main complaint is still that it's hard to breathe, but he also complained of a stomach and headache.  For the game, Coach Ray decided to have him play defense - doesn't involve the constant running that you do while on the offensive.  He did great back there, but that's just a temporary solution. We need to figure out what is causing these issues...

Mallory has definitely made some improvements this season, too.  The first game, she didn't follow the pack at all, but kicked a few balls in from out of bounds.  The second game, she ran around holding Coach Ray's hand.  If the ball came towards them and he pointed it out to her, she tried to kick it.

This week, she started off the game actually running with the pack -

She had one opportunity to kick the ball in -

After that, she spent some time running around with the coach again.
By the end, she was pretty much doing her own thing.  This was one scenario -

Where's the ball?

I'm running right past it...

and I don't care. lol

Two funny moments - one time when the ball was coming right toward her, instead of going for it or even running the other direction, she put her hands over her eyes as if she was hiding. Too bad the camera wasn't ready for that!  Second, here she is celebrating... not over our goal, but over the fact that she took the fastest water break and beat the other kids back onto the field.

Never a dull moment around here!

Field Day

I was able to go to Drew's field day last Monday - I wasn't able to stay the whole time, but he was happy that I made it.  While he did report having fun at the end of the day, he wasn't too enthusiastic about some of the activities.  I got there at the end of the sack races, and he kept telling me he didn't want to do it again.  Thankfully for him, it was only the one race and he didn't have to :)  Next was the obstacle course, and he was ok with that one.

Dribble Mania was next on the agenda. He wasn't thrilled about it,
but I told him he needed to participate! Once he got out there,
I saw why he wasn't so excited... dribbling isn't an easy
skill, esp. for a five year old. lol

Brady's field day was later in the week, and on
an overcast day :)  Jumping rope wasn't his forte.

Dribble Mania was a whole different experience with
2nd graders.  I realized that the actual point of the game
was to get other people out by stealing their ball.  Brady
was pretty good at it, and one time got down to the final two.

Again, not his favorite. But, he didn't complain...

In his element here - throwing a football or baseball as far
as you can.  I don't think any of the kids threw the baseball
farther than he did, but some came close.  Must be all that
practice he's getting playing center field.

Back in the Groove

I got a couple more layouts done :)  This first one is a combination of two kits I already had - I have used both of them before, so I was happy to use them again... and even happier to end up with a layout I really love!

Wild About You - Meg Mullens
All Year Long, March - Meg Mullens
Potpourri template - Darcy Baldwin
Fancy Nancy font - Darcy Baldwin

I'm not as in love with this next one, but it's still good to have the memory documented!  I posted on facebook a while back how Mallory was quoting Cat in the Hat.  She has recently discovered Dr. Seuss and enjoys reading his books.  After making a mess in the playroom, she told me, "This mess is so deep and so tall. I cannot pick it up, there is no way at all." I just thought it was so funny - not only that she can quote the book, but that she used the quote appropriately.

Day at the Zoo

We took the kids to the zoo a couple weekends ago - trying to take advantage of the warm weather before it gets unbearable!

Lookin' stylish in their dinosaur shirts :)

Being her 3 year old self - difficult! First she wants in
the stroller, then out, then to push it... Bryan got irritated
pretty quickly. lol

The one picture she actually wanted to take!

Mmm... ice cream!

Drew requested pics of many of the snakes
in the reptile house.

After a few weeks of inactivity, I got back to scrapping and got this layout done.  The big pic is one my sister-in-law Holly took - they went to visit Bryan's oldest brother and family near Washington D.C.  I wish we had a sign like that at our zoo - makes for a really cool pic!

Happy Easter!

The kids were up at 7 a.m. to see what the Easter Bunny brought them!  Of course, they (Brady, at least) were up much earlier than that, but that was the time they were allowed to come out of their rooms. lol

Found one!

Counting and sorting her eggs :)

Surprisingly, all three kids found the same
number of eggs. What are the chances?

A couple eggs were missing, and Drew
and Mallory were both on the hunt for
the last one.  This is Mallory celebrating that
she grabbed it seconds before Drew could get it...

Some pics at Grandma's house before everyone arrives...

Being silly!

spin on the paddle boat

Grandma has two egg hunts, one for the kids
and one for the adults

All in all, a good Easter Sunday!  Now to get ready for a busy week.  Brady has baseball games Tues - Thurs. Drew & Mallory have soccer practice Thursday and a game on Saturday.  The kids are getting their hair cut, and the boys have field day this week.  I'm tired just thinking about it :)

It's almost Easter!

We had a lot going on this week, so it was tough to find time to color our eggs.  I was thinking we would wait until today, then I realized that Drew and Mallory had a soccer game and Brady had baseball practice.  Waiting until after dinner when everyone has spent some time out in the sun didn't seem wise.  Considering Mallory's behavior at the moment, that was a smart move on my part.  Instead, we worked on them yesterday afternoon after we got home from Kate's birthday party.

We (really just me) dyed these eggs using silk ties.
I was a little disappointed by how dull they turned
out, but the patterns are cool.

This one, however, was just what I was hoping for!
Here are the directions I followed - silk dyed eggs

Some of the finished product :)
