Almost summer

Today was Drew and Brady's last full day of school.  They have an early release tomorrow, and if I didn't need to run by the mall and pick up Drew's cookie cake, I would probably just keep them home.  I was able to make it to both their parties at school today.  Karen was kind enough to watch Mallory while I went to Drew's, his teacher prefers that siblings are left at home :)

Eating a yummy cupcake and watching the
end-of-the-year video the room mom made of the class

Toothpicks and kindergarteners aren't a great combo. lol

On to Brady's luau...

One of his best friends, definitely helped support
his newfound love of football

the luau version of hot potato - "hot coconut"

Drew's birthday party is tomorrow night, so we're gearing up for that! If today was any indication, he will be bouncing off the walls once he gets home from school tomorrow...

Some love...

for the layout I posted yesterday -

Seattle layouts

I spent a lot of time on the computer yesterday! In fact, I had a pretty bad headache by the end of the day, and I'm guessing that's why. But, I was feeling really motivated to scrap... so I did!

The first layout I did from our trip was from our visit to Chateau St. Michelle winery.  They make my favorite riesling.  After we landed in Seattle, it was our first stop. It was a bit later in the day than we would have liked, but we had time to do a quick tasting and go on the last tour of the day.  The grounds were beautiful, complete with their own resident peacock.

After that, I decided I would use the last template in this trio pack to make a page summarizing our trip, kind of like a cover page if I were putting these in a separate album. I journaled quite a bit on this one so that I would be free to journal less on the other layouts I do for the rest of the trip pictures.

Let KCB's CT scrap it!

One of the contests/giveaways I entered on National Scrapbook Day was to submit a photo you would like scrapped by one of Kristin Cronin-Barrow's creative team members.  She is one of my favorite designers at the Sweet Shoppe, so this was a no-brainer.  I chose a pic from Mallory's first birthday and also got to select which kit I would like used.  They ended up only having around 10 entries, so everyone got their page scrapped by a member of her team. Here is mine, done by Sara :)

My new favorite

Certainly not every layout I complete is one of my favorites.  I had high hopes for this one, though, because I love the kit so much!!  I did actually have Mallory's outfit before I bought the kit... this time. lol

We're back!

Bryan and I spent a long weekend in Seattle.  His mom watched the kiddos for us, which is always VERY appreciated!  We enjoyed the time away but I think we were both ready to come home.  The worst moment was realizing I had to face the Houston heat again this evening... didn't take long to get used to the cooler temps there.  We had to walk around in the rain for two days to see downtown Seattle, but we did get two sunny days before that, so we felt fortunate in that respect :)  Hopefully, I will be back tomorrow to post a few pics.

Winding down

May always seems to be crazy with the end of school quickly approaching!  I enjoy working on things like teacher appreciation gifts and planning for Drew's party, but it's less enjoyable when you're trying to do too many things at once. lol

We are done with Brady's baseball season.  I think everyone is a bit relieved given that our record wasn't stellar.  Drew and Mallory have one more soccer game this weekend, then they will be through.  Mallory's last day of school is this Thursday, while the boys go until June 1.  It will all fly by in the blink of an eye, I'm certain of that!

I know you all are REALLY looking forward to seeing the rest of my pages for my Week in the Life project - so here they are :)

I haven't decided for sure what I am going to do with my pages once I print them out. I'm leaning towards printing them 8x8 instead of 12x12 and buying a new album. I'm definitely planning on doing the project a few more times in the future, so I would like to be able to keep all the pages together in their own album.  I'm also a little afraid that the journaling will be HUGE if I print in my normal size... printing in 8x8 will give me a better idea, and I can always print them larger and add them to my family scrapbook, too, if I like.

Happy Mother's Day!

Unfortunately, Bryan had to work today. The kids and I hung around the house - I got Drew's party invitation done, worked on my Week in the Life project, and decided which clothes I will be taking to Seattle later this week.  Bryan made it home around dinnertime, so we went out to eat and then made a quick stop at the park on the way home to take a few pics.

I asked her to pose a little, and this is what I got...

Drew's gift had a few mini muffins in it,
for breakfast in bed :)

The kids took care of them for me. lol

Inspired by Pinterest

Here are a few things I've done in the past week or so.  All were ideas that I pinned on Pinterest - love it!  The first project was to get the kids' school stuff organized.  I saw this idea and immediately knew I would do it - you just make a file box for each child, and then have a hanging file for each year.  I have started a school scrapbook for Brady (and will do one for Drew & Mallory) but I hadn't decided where to put all the extras - class picture, report card, papers I saved, etc.  I think this is a great system for all that extra stuff!

Read about it here

This week was teacher appreciation week.  While I don't feel obligated to send something every day, I do like to send a little something and prefer if it's at least a bit homemade.  I ended up sending different gifts for Mallory's teachers - we received a sheet with their "favorites" on it, and I really try to come up with something that I know they will use!

I'm "soda"lighted to have you as my teacher!

I'm so fortunate to have you as my teacher! (credit here)
These were for Brady and Drew's teachers.  I filled them with
fortune cookies and a gift card to Bath & Body Works.

I tried to make fortune cookies out of paper - I found several set of instructions online. However, after I wasted two sheets of paper trying to fold the things correctly... I gave up!  Perhaps working on them late at night wasn't the best idea.

A new project

I'm excited about my latest project!  Several weeks ago, I started seeing a bunch of talk in my forum about  Ali Edward's Week in the Life project.   I will be honest and say that initially, I really had no interest in it. Many of the ladies at the Sweet Shoppe had done the project in the past and were excited to do it again.  I read about it, but wasn't motivated to do it until I saw this album by Traci Reed.  I loved the idea of making it easy - using my phone to take the pics and not doing any embellishing, just pics and journaling.
Here are my first two days:

I am really loving not only taking the pics with my phone, but also playing with Instagram (an app on my phone) to change up the look a bit.  I'm o.k. with the fact that each photo isn't going to be high quality... it's all about documenting our lives at this particular moment in time.  I think it will be fun to look back on this 5, 10, or 20 years from now and see all the things I've forgotten.  Heck, let's be honest, some of this stuff I probably won't even remember next month :p

Happy Birthday Bryan!

Well, it wasn't an exciting evening, but we did celebrate :)  We ate dinner early, thinking that Brady was going to have his first tournament game tonight.  Once he and Bryan made it to the field, though, they learned it had been cancelled due to the rain. So, as Bryan predicted, we ate early and then had the time to go out... oh, well!  The game is scheduled for tomorrow, so we'll see if the rain holds off.  At least tonight it gave us more time for presents, cake and ice cream.

A couple new beer signs for his collection

Mallory was determined to help Bryan open his presents.
She was leaning so far across the table she was barely touching her seat!

An angry birds shirt to wear to Drew's party :)

Jeff Bagwell t-shirt and Astros tickets for the whole family

Mmmm... cookie cake!

National Scrapbooking Day

This past Saturday was National Scrapbooking Day.  There were lots of good sales going on in the digital world, and lots of fun contests and challenges in the forum at the Sweet Shoppe.  I would have liked to basically sit at the computer all day and participate in many of them, but we had a soccer game, baseball game, and then I took Mallory to a birthday party.  I did finally sit down in the evening and picked a few things to participate in.  I don't have the greatest luck, so I knew I didn't have the greatest chance of winning, but it's fun to play anyway!   Since there were around 25-30 things to choose from, I stuck with 5-6 hosted by my favorite designers.  One of them was a template challenge -

KCB template challenge - NSD 2012

Of course, I use templates all the time, but this was a good excuse to scrap some pics I hadn't gotten around to yet in hopes of winning a gift certificate to purchase more goodies!

Here's a few more pics of the kids working in the garden...

A little windy?

Apparently, Brady was too busy watching baseball and playing his ds to help out this year...

We won!

Drew and Mallory won their first soccer game on Saturday :)  I'm not sure Mallory cared one way or the other, but Drew was definitely excited.  The highlight of the game was when Drew scored his first goal of the season - way to go, Drew!!

Mallory really enjoys going through the "tunnel" at the end of the game. She made a point of telling me she looked forward to doing it before our game this weekend.
