Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween :) I love that my kids still humor me and let me have a say in what they will be... I know this will not last forever!  Of course, I'm totally biased, but I thought they all looked awesome in their costumes tonight.

Karen and family went trick-or-treating with us, and so did one of Brady's good friends that lives across the street.  We made it a few houses down the street before Mallory tripped on the driveway and busted her lip.  Bryan ran home to get some tissues, while she cried (and bleed) on my shoulder.  After a few minutes, she was good to go.  Nothing a little candy can't fix!  We made the block, and after about an hour, Mallory's pumpkin pail was full of candy.   She was ready to go home.  We headed back before everyone else, but we were probably only home ten minutes before everyone else called it quits.

They dumped all their candy on the floor and immediately asked how many they could have - they know how this works :p  They made their selections and tore through those in a few minutes.  As you can see, they had plenty to choose from!

On a side note, here are a couple jack-o-lantern pics I took last night..

Carving pumpkins

Bryan was home earlier in the afternoon than usual, so we took advantage of that and carved our pumpkins yesterday.  Each of the kids picked out two pumpkins at the patch several weeks ago.  Brady and Drew decided to carve their larger ones.  Mallory decided to paint faces on two small pumpkins.  Then, once she saw the carving tools, she also decided she needed to carve one.

She knew just what she wanted and drew the faces for me on a piece of paper - one smiley face, one sad face. I copied the faces with a sharpie and let her paint without my direction.

Her request for this pumpkin was a scary face.  Bryan sketched
something out for her on paper and she approved. lol

As you can see from her face, she wasn't thrilled
over this part...

Just like last year, Drew was very specific about what he wanted for his pumpkin.  I was showing him examples on my phone, but eventually I realized he already had his mind made up.  His choice was a skull and crossbones.... no idea why or even where he came up with that idea!

He did not touch the pumpkin guts at all... just poked inside
briefly with his spoon.

I was helping him carve, so no pic of that!  I think we did a pretty
good job.

Brady looked around online a bit and found a pattern he was happy with for his pumpkin - a tombstone.  He did his best to clean out his pumpkin - certainly not his favorite job, but at least he was willing to do it this year!  Bryan traced the pattern for him, and we let him carve on his own.  We did help him some at the end - the particular picture he went with wasn't the easiest for a beginner carver.

Hopefully, I will be back tomorrow with some pics of our jack-o-lanterns at night!

My weekend...

went by in the blink of an eye! Yesterday, we (i.e. the kids) took pictures in the morning for our Christmas cards.  From there, we hit the school carnival for a few hours.  That evening, Bryan, his dad, and the boys went to a hockey game.  I watched the Aggie game at home with Mallory and worked on cutting/organizing boxtops for the kids' school.  I seriously underestimated how long that would take!  I wasn't watching the clock, but I think I spent at least five hours, between last night and tonight.  I also somehow fit in two baseball games, laundry, and working on some Halloween treats for teachers.

The next few days will be equally busy - carving pumpkins, making cupcakes for Mallory's school picnic, and Halloween!  Oh, and did I mention it's less than three weeks until we leave for Disney?  Just a few things on my plate :)

Owls baseball

Our baseball season is in full swing.  Brady has pitched three times now... he enjoys it, but apparently not enough to practice on his own.  After his last time, Coach gave him the game ball, so he was pretty pleased with himself. lol

I have really been surprised with how well Drew has done his first season.  His swing definitely needs some work, but I have been impressed with what he's done out in the field.  He's often the first player out on the field, and he loves to play pitcher or first base because those players get the most action.  He's made several outs - he definitely has more knowledge of the game than I would have given him credit for!

Happy Birthday Brady!

It's his last year in the single digits... sigh.  He is actually with my parents today - what he wanted most for his birthday was to go to the Texas A&M vs. LSU game.  It could have had such a better outcome... but I think we can at least say that it was an entertaining game!

The plan was to celebrate his birthday yesterday.  It was an early release day, and Bryan's mom came for the day.  We were going to go out and do something fun, open presents, and then go where Brady wanted for dinner.  However, that was not meant to be because he ended up with a stomach bug the day before and wasn't up to all those things :(  We did open presents and decided to postpone his birthday dinner until Sunday.

his own itouch - apparently he wasn't expecting it!

Hopefully, he used his itouch at the game today and took a few pictures I can scrap :)

Happy the hippo

Mallory's class has a "pet" hippo named Happy.  All the kids get a turn taking him home and recording their adventures with him in a journal.  Mallory got to bring him home today - she was the first one in the class :)  Ms. Melanie sent home the most recent journal and also included Brady's journal entry from four years ago.  Both Mallory and Brady thought it was pretty neat to look at the pictures.

The new and improved Happy, lol.
I guess he can only take so much wear and tear
from four and five year olds!

Happy's favorite food is blueberry muffins!

Yum!

Time to get ready for bed - got to change into pj's
and brush our teeth

Mallory says this is Happy's favorite bedtime story

She is looking forward to taking him out to eat for Brady's birthday and with her to a sleepover at Grandma's house this weekend... fun times ahead!

Candy Corn Cutie

I wanted to take a few shots of Mallory in this cute outfit... only problem was that we had just taken pictures at the pumpkin patch the day before, so she wasn't so keen on the idea.  Nothing a small bribe can't fix, though :)  I believe in this case it was a glass of chocolate milk.  I was also sure to promise I just wanted a few pics and that it would only take a second!

It felt like it took me FOREVER to finish this layout. Problem is that
I don't have a kit that has black, orange, and yellow so I was pulling things
together from a number of kits.  Just reminds me why I love sticking
with one kit - makes life easier!

Scraplift

I saved this layout as a favorite a few weeks ago... I absolutely love it!
layout by akizo

My version is almost identical.  I made VERY FEW changes because I think it is so beautiful the way it is, and I didn't want to be anything less than thrilled with the result!

This is yet another thing I love about scrapping digitally.  To see a layout in a magazine and to be able to replicate it with traditional scrapbooking would be almost impossible.  In the digital world, I can almost always get my hands on the right products with the click of a mouse :)  And then... I can use the kit again and again!

Brady's party

Brady had his party this past weekend.  I think the journaling is big enough to read if you click on the bottom layout, so I won't repeat everything I said there!  Good times were had by all :)

Pumpkin Patch

The pumpkins arrived at the church this week.  I decided it would be a good idea to go sooner rather than later - more pumpkins plus the weather has been nice.  Mallory was enthusiastic about going... her brothers, not so much. I think they liked the idea of going but not when it cut into their precious playing time.

I can't get over how much older Brady is looking!

This is not an unusual sight.  She's gotten
much more sensitive in the past few months :(

A real smile! Frankly, I was concerned I hadn't
captured ANY, so I was happy to see this.

The boys enjoyed the hay.  It's the little things, you know?

Too bad Brady's eyes are practically closed...

I couldn't get a shot of all three of them... oh, well!
